Kindly note, that I was on Richmond Dr celebrating both rings in 1994 and 1995. And the Barkley trade was a real d******d trade. Sam Cassell and Robert Horry would have brought more glory to the Rockets than that portly loudmouth.
How many threads have been started saying " McGrady is finished/ Done with the Rockets" from Yahoo! sports.
The Houston rockets won those rings, because Hakeem Olajuwon was the best basketball player on the planet at that time.
Already fixed. I know. It's hard to realize sometimes that people don't remember the 2 glory runs we had. Man, I'm getting old when I'm b****ing with Tinman about these young kids. I agree with you on the Barkley trade. We finally broke the Sonics curse and gave the Jazz a good run in the WCF. That was also my first year as a season ticket holder, and game 4 against the Jazz remains my favorite sporting event I personally witnessed. We were also one of 10 teams to beat the Bulls that year. The wheels started coming off after that season. We got old, traded for Pippen, and made a bunch of moves to try to capitalize on the last legs of Hakeem's career. Can't argue with that, but had some dogs there at the end. And the Stevie years were a bust. Still nothing but love for CD.
No, that's common sense. What rival executive or coach is going to go on the record blasting a player (or a situation), particularly one that's still in progress? It's a sensitive situation, and no one is going to say anything of any value unless you promise them anonymity.
Steve Patterson, Tod Leiweke and Bob Weinhauer are all crying somewhere CD became GM in May of 1996 he had nothing to do with the player acquisitions on either championship team. player development on those teams as an assistant coach is a different story
Again DD, you cannot tell what he might become in just 8 minutes per game. Its impossible and a waste of time, but if their playing him to bring him along slowly, then Im all for it. This whole thing has become a farce and I believe there has to be more to this mess behind the scenes than meets the eye. It doesn't make sense as to what their doing. I have been extremely critical of Tracy especially when he doesn't keep his mouth shut, but Im an objective rocket fan.
They all pretty much agree that the 8 minutes a game charade was not much to go on. They all agree that it was a charade. Anyone who knows a thing or two about basketball knows that you cannot tell jack from those kind of minutes. The Rockets felt that McGrady would cause more harm than good. That's fine, it's their job to protect the best interests of the team. I just feel like they could have handled it better by just telling him straight up to pack up and leave. If they wanted to showcase him then they needed to play him more minutes. It's just getting to be like a circus so I'm glad it's finally over. Now we can go back to watching our overachieving squad in peace.
Raj, Usually you are a very nice and respectful poster, you have a bit more of an edge in your posts today and tossing out DHeads like they are sticks of free gum? What is going on in Raj world that is making your angry? DD
Nobody could predict the Pippen situation. He never took any team to the finals without MJ. Can't look back and say what if Cassell/Horry etc. Cassell became a better PG with Ray Allen as his SG. He even said himself that it took him 5 years to become a decent PG. The thing about the old Rockets is that everything seemed like one big family, the city, the fans, Gallery Furniture, Rudy T, Calvin/Bill, Gene/Jim, etc. That seems gone now. Well don't forget Yao, the last of the CD/Rudy T era!
Time to get this deal in motion: Rockets get: J. O'Neal, Randolph, D. Cook Heat get: McLady, Biedrins, D. George Warriors get: Haslem, D. Wright, B. Cook, J. Taylor Rockets get great shooting and young promise, plus O'Neal's expiring. Heat get their coveted McLady and a replacement center. Warriors get a butt load of expirings and rid themselves of the albatrossian contract of Biedrins. Everyone wins!
Also brought the Texans to Houston. I worked at the same building back in the day. He deserves props of course, but not many people know his story nowadays.
