Not that I need to prove myself to "jose" but where is he? He said Adrian had no clue in regards to trade rumors and he told everyone that the Rockets were "probably" getting Butler... Because a guy with a Rockets id badge told him something about Butler... Sure...
Morey is showing to be very confident that with Yao back next season we'll be contenders Obviously Morey feels with this same team + Yao we will beat the Lakers Les Alexander also feels if you can't win without staying under the Tax then it's not worth winning. I'm losing faith in management.
Dude, calm down!!! One "available" player drops off the board, and you're losing faith in Daryl Freakin' Morey??? Get a grip! (Now, picture me shaking you violently, slapping you across the face, and then you thanking me for it.)
Everyone is going crazy that Butler is gone now. Some have become desperate all the sudden and want a move made NOW.
I'm not going to lose faith in DM, even if we can't dump McGrady. Standing pat might be the best thing for us; it just isn't as much fun as picking up Iggy or Butler would have been. As far as that goes, DM will hit a dud trade/pick or two; I don't expect him to keep up his record, especially on draft picks. If he could keep drafting the way he has done, some owner should make him a deal where he gets to keep the team after a set number of years, like radio networks do with popular hosts.
I'm not losing faith in Morey per se. I think It's Les who is handicapping us by wanting to Build exclusively around Yao. I think Morey would love to build this team without Yao but Les will not allow it. I pray to God Yao comes back great and doesn't ask for the MAX.
Eh . . . can't say that I agree with you there. First off, Dallas's offer was just better than anything that the Rockets (and most people on this BBS) were willing to offer. Face it, for as nice a young player as Chase Budinger is, even if he were included, you can't blame the Wiz for opting for a player the caliber of Josh Howard, who can either be let go this summer or (assuming his team option isn't picked up) can still be re-signed to a reasonable deal, since the Wiz will have his Bird rights. Second, I think the "philosophy" that would prevent the Rockets from doing many deals has more to do with Morey than it does Les. Sure, when it comes to the bottom line (how much $$$ will this cost?), Les is the guy making the call. But Les has given Morey a great deal of control over these deals. Morey's analytical mind attributes Value X to Player Y. It looks like he will not accept any deal involving Player Y that does not, in fact, net the Rockets Value X. The benefit of this analytical thinking is that the Rockets will not likely get the bad end of a trade. The downside is, however, that fewer trades will actually happen. Just relax and let the next week unfold. I can't imagine the Rockets wouldn't get SOMETHING for McGrady, even if it's just payroll/tax relief from New York. Hey, those draft picks won't buy themselves!
Still plenty of possibilities that look good for Houston if we made a deal with New York. It depends on how much they want McGrady and, of course, if we'd like what they're offering. I think this would be pretty amazing if it went down: New York to Houston - Larry Hughes Danilo Gallinari Jordan Hill total going out: - $19,227,588 Houston to New York - Tracy McGrady Joey Dorsey total going out: - $23,724,124 We immediately lower our payroll by $4.5 million, get 2 very good young players (I really like Gallinari), and Hughes' expiring deal. New York gets $23.7 million in expiring contracts next summer to play with, get a look at Dorsey (next season a team option), and the inside track on signing McGrady, if they want him. Heck, I'd prefer this deal to many I've seen the last few days (and sorry if I missed this same deal somewhere). Works on the trade thingy. http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine
They won't even give up Jordan Hill in a deal, no way do they move DG. He is their "untouchable". I like the trade though.
Looks like Washington might have fallen through. Folks around here are bemoaning (way too soon, IMO) the lack of a deal if Wiz/Mavs goes through and the Sixers are a non-starter. New York is seeing possible deals fall by the wayside, as well. How badly do they want a deal? We don't have to make one.
I agree, it would be amazing. You know what else would be amazing??? If pigs could fly. Because that will happen before your proposed trade does. In all seriousness, there is no way in hell that Donnie Walsh trades Gallinari. It is also highly unlikely that he agrees to trade Jordan Hill, at least not unless the Rockets agree to take back Jared Jeffries's contract. Assuming just a straight-up trade with New York, I think the Rockets will have to choose salaries from among the following Knicks players: Al Harrington Larry Hughes Darko Milicic (salary filler) Chris Duhon (assuming D'Antoni is okay with Nate and Douglas at the point) Cuttino Mobley (ONLY if the league denies the Knicks salary cap relief for his contract) My preference (again, of readily-attainable combinations as a LAST RESORT) would be Harrington and Mobley (whose contract would still net the Rockets an additional $2.7M in savings covered by insurance). A Harrington/Mobley for T-Mac deal would save Les about $11-12M this year. That's a lot of cash to put into trades and/or to buy draft picks.
You don't think pigs can fly?? Hey, we don't have to make a deal involving McGrady. We don't need another 4 (not that Harrington isn't a nice player), covered at the 1, and we certainly wouldn't want Darko. We might consider Harrington if we were moving one of Scola or Landry in another deal. We could use Hughes this season.
If all other (more palatable) deals fall through, Les Alexander has at least 10 million reasons to make a deal to the Knicks involving McGrady. The reasons for such a trade would not be primarily motivated by basketball.
here's your hourly twitter update: STEIN_LINE_HQ Deal might not be finalized before Monday, but five main pieces are Josh Howard/Gooden to WAS and Butler/Haywood/Stevenson to Mavs wonder if anything can still happen before then?
I understand the Harrington/Hughes deal as a last resort, but what impact would Harrington have on our rotation? What message does that send to Scola/Landry? And where is the young talent Morey is supposed to insist on?
Who the f--- cares??? The Rockets could freakin' WAIVE both Harrington and Hughes the day after the trade. It doesn't matter. Just MAKING the trade (rather than doing nothing) saves Les a ton of money.
