I think I would have a problem if they asked for Battier and was told NO..I get the whole leader aspect of it all but IMO it would be a mistake to hang on to him unless they had BIGGER plans for him down the road.
I think all of the talk of getting a big name player has worked Rockets fans into a fury so much so, that I see big disappointment when Cuban or someone else lands Butler. We need to remember that as decent of a player that Butler or AI are, they are not the difference between us winning a championship. We have the kind of nucleus with Battier/Ariza/Yao/Scola/Landry/Brooks/Budinger to continue to put a competitive team out there. As long as Kobe and Gasol are in LA, you're gonna be hard-pressed to go on a significant championship run. Unless we can get Bosh or D Wade (very unlikely) I think we should avoid any headaches by making a trade just to make a trade.
As much as I like and enjoy the players on this team....I very much miss a player of TMac's ability as a dominate and creative player. I think thats what the fans want to see and pay to watch. Even with Yao is back, he's not a exciting and on most nights a dominating player. He's a great team player but kinda blah. We need a player to be able to create his own shot.
just in a few minutes ago: STEIN_LINE_HQ Just filed to ESPN.com: Mavs-Wiz trade talks have only gotten more serious this afternoon. Many sources say sides closing in on a deal maybe the houston deal fell through?
Part of me hopes this is Morey's trap to keep Cuban the Jock-sniffer away from our real deal. Maybe we've settled on a different target anyway.
Cuban's suck a dick. First, he and Morey have statistic conferences together. Then, after realizing the tremendous success Morey has been having with his statistical approach, hires his own supposed "wizard statistician". And fully knowing Morey has a great eye for talent, has been riding his coat tails with every player Morey has expressed interest in. It started with Gortat and now with Butler. And because Cuban is a wheelin and dealin free spending spirit, he can not only match any offer Houston comes with, but be more than willing to overpay and outmatch Houston. DICK.
I have a feeling that we're holding out Buddinger from the deal. if we add him in, we scuttle Dallas' deal. in texas holdem terms, this, if anything, is just the flop. Wait for the turn and the river.
just say no and let Dallas take on Butler and whoever else, ONLY to lose again in the 1st or 2nd round.
this. morey isn't an idiot...he knows who his competition is morey will end up making the right move, whatever that may be
My thoughts exactly. The absolute worst thing IMO would be the Rockets to get Butler and Haywood and stay mediocre.
