Trust me, I like Jamison. I live in the Bay Area, and watched him since he played for GSW. The problem with tackling on Jamison, is, he doesn't help solve our size issue at the C spot. So now the Rockets are cash strapped, cap lowering, and still have nobody to help out Chuck this year, or, Yao next
Ok I know that, but who is better IYO, Jamison or Scola? Also I'm looking at the deal as we get Haywood in it as well. That certainly solves a Center issue.
I would hate HATE to lose Landry and the only reason I threw him in the deal was because maybe they wouldn't want Scola. Any Gm would trade Scola for Jamison.
A healthy Yao and if we had a scoring 2, I'd take Jamison over Scola. But since Yao is always injured, and we don't have a scoring 2, I'd keep Scola. Scola is durable, and is cheaper. Scola, IMO, could be traded for more than Jamison and Co. If anything, we trade Scola to get younger.
Scola is undersized face it. You really think the Wizards would trade Jamison for Scola? Then why would you expect for him? You over value Scola.
Houston gets: Haywood, Butler, Jamison Washington gets: McGrady, Scola, Cook (All expiring) Throw in a couple future picks maybe??
Actually, looking at the numbers Scola avgs only 5 points less per game while playing 8 less minutes and 5 fewer shots per game. Everything else is pretty equal and while I agree Jamison over Scola, it is not the no-brainer I initial thought.
Guys, my guess is that the Rockets make a smaller deal to get below the luxury tax and wait for TMac's contract to expire. I bet Boston is able to get Butler and Jamison and they might have a bit of a revival, but they will be hating life for the long term with all of those contracts. In Morey I trust!!!
I do believe that Morey would be fine with this, but I believe that there are enough offers out there that we will be able to move McGrady. However, the resulting trade, may be ny expiring's and getting below the lux tax. in essence, exactly what you said.
Washington gets: Harrington, Scola, Mobley Houston gets: Butler, Haywood, Jamison New York gets: McGrady BAM! It is a lot of money though...
Jamison is the better player RIGHT NOW. But you are sadly mistaken if you think that "any GM" would take Jamison over Scola. Maybe for equal money for one year. But the NBA doesn't work that way. 2009-10: Antawn Jamison - 33 years old - $11.6M Luis Scola - 29 years old - $3.3M 2010-11: Antawn Jamison - 34 years old - $13.4M Luis Scola - 30 years old - ~$6-7M, tops (remember, he's a RESTRICTED free agent this summer, and the Rockets can defintely "chill the bidding" on him) 2011-12: Antawn Jamison - 35 years old - $15.1M Luis Scola - 31 years old - ~$7-8M, tops Frankly, if I'm "most GMs", I'll take the slightly less productive player at the DRASTICALLY reduced price. But maybe that's just me.
I didn't look at Jamison's contract over the years. I didn't know it would increase both years remaining on it. Scola is definitely the better "value" right now. Jamison is the better overall player. Is it worth it?? Do you feel we would have a chance to win a championship with a lineup of: Brooks/Lowry Butler/Budinger Ariza/Battier Jamison/Landry Yao/Haywood I don't know about you, but that looks like a damn good lineup to me (considering we resign Haywood and Lowry). Is it worth it?
No, it's not worth it. The Rockets probably wouldn't be able to afford to re-sign Lowry or Haywood with the salary commitments to Jamison and Butler next year. Not unless you expect Les Alexander to pay $90-100M for his roster next season. Personally, I don't.
You got us there. In 2011-12 that's 3-4 mill away what Bosh will command and he's on the rise. If Jamison was a little younger and could hold up his near double-double(20pts,8.8rebs) stats next to Yao. He would have been a good Bosh-like pickup with 3pt range.
If a trade like the one I mentioned was to happen....I think Battier would have to be shipped out for an expiring contract and a draft pick. That takes a little more money off the books.
