Stevierebel beat me to the punch. I wonder what Houston's hesitation is? Morey has said he'd be willing to take a deal ahead of the deadline if it gets us the player he wants. Is he holding out for someone else?

I'd love to get McGee included in there somehow. And I think Morey can make that happen. A couple of weeks back i read that he was interested in a young piece from WAS (could be Young though?)..

The Wizards or the Knicks may be asking for too much in return.

Morey has tried to trade up into the lottery every year and has failed every time. I wouldn't bet on him getting lucky this year.

It can't just be McGrady for both Butler and Haywood, someone has to go with him, I hope it isn't Lowry or Landry. Anyone else is free to go!

How much do the Knicks want McGrady? Let's assume they want him pretty bad.

    http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yhnrbph

    Knicks get: McGrady, Cook
    Wizards get: Harrington, Hill, Mobley
    Rockets get: Haywood, Butler, James

Why the Knicks do it: They really want McGrady and are willing to sacrifice a "promising" rookie ("promising" in quotes because Jordan Hill isn't getting much playing time) for it. I can't see this being true, but who knows what Donnie Walsh saw with T-Mac? Maybe they think they could sign him cheap next season and still get a marquee free agent?

Why the Wizards do it: They free up about $8M in cap space next season and get a "promising" young player.

Why the Rockets do it: Haywood for a stopgap paint protection solution until Yao is back. Butler for another scorer and defender next season. James expires.

There is flexibility. The Rockets could toss Budinger or Taylor towards NYC or Washington if it meant getting the deal done.

Due diligence... He's going to go into All Star weekend to probably hear the last proposals from interested general managers... There is no need unless Washington threatens to move on immediately to do the trade tonight.

All Star weekend has been and will be a very active trade discussion "starter" and this year will be no different. Offers will increase from others that have just shown interest.

Agreed, If the Knicks are desperate to land TMac... they should trade young talent before the Rockets do

Cash considerations and Budinger, that is it. The Knicks are willing to give up their pick.

    Knicks won't give up Hill.

Wizards could ask for David Lee if the rumors of him not resigning with the Knicks in the off-season are true. Then again Lee has to consent to the trade.

i was checking other boards and use the trade machine of espn

i make a deal that may look realistic

HOU send to NY T-mac and Cook

NY send to WAS Hughes and Harrintong

and we get from WAS Butler,Haywood,Oberto and Stevenson

The first part of my post said that at this point of time, all things considered, this is a pretty good deal. I am not objecting the deal. I am just saying that TMac's value has dropped so much that getting a high-end role player (Butler) and a decent big man (Haywood) who we might not be able to retain next year is considered "good" now. And it seems to be that TMac alone is not good enough for us to land even THAT, and we might have to throw in a young prospect like Budinger.

If you ask me what kind of "star" we need, well, a young stud like Bosh or Amare would be my choice. I don't think it is realistic now, given TMac's value.

Like I said, can you imagine how we would have cursed Morey if he would consider this kind of a deal just a season and a half ago?

"Advance the ball" means there is a deal on the table for Houston to decide. It does not say WHAT NY and/or Washington is demanding from Houston besides McGrady.
