The thing about Butler is if he is in our future plans, how will he fit in our system? Honestly, I dont think he can fit. He is a solid player indeed but we really need 3 point shooting folks. He can make the 3 but not consistently which we will need at the 2 or 3 spot. Adelman wants shooters, and Yao will want shooters when he demands a double team.... **Sorry for any typing errors, on the phone.
it only makes sense for him to get sent in the deal. Wiz save nearly 15 mil next year and could offer a near max deal if the cap is at the rumored 52 million.
I think this trade is right in Adleman's wheelhouse. Young, athletic players with a big man that runs the floor. I read somewhere in this thread that even with this trade the Rocket's don't make the playoffs...I respectfully disagree. If someone has time I'd love to see how this hypothetical line-up would match up against the top in the west. I'm not too lazy to do it, just too sick (flu). Thx in advance.
OK, what star do we need? I didn't read the entire thread so maybe you already told us, but I'd like to know specifically what we need to do to get a "star". The way I look at it, Yao is the star we are missing, and he is coming back next year. If we somehow get Butler and Haywood for T-Mac and not much else, then next year should be pretty interesting. If things don't work out next year we should be in a pretty good position to rebuild in 2011/2012. Please tell me what star player you want us to get, and how are we going to do it.

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yfyv5co this is how it will probably go down with teams simply moving around expiring contracts. Washington gets: Al Harrington Larry Hughes Houston gets: Caron Butler Brendan Haywood New York gets: Mike James Tracy McGrady Mike James may even help them win considering how much Duhon sucks.
In this context, dude, you people = those in favor for Iggy. I believe butler is highly underrated on this forum largely because he has a much less 'sexy' name than Iggy. If you are not part of that demographic, then you are not part of those 'people' I was referring to. That simple. Either way, relax. You were done no cyber injustice by being grouped with fellow Rocket's fans.
Am I the only one who is more sold on trading for andre iguodala and dalembert. I don't know, but I'd rather have iguodala then butler. He is more of a scorer and has more upside than butler. Granted, Brendan Haywood would be a huge pick up, but, I'd settle for dalembert to get iguodala.
Eddie Johnson wrote this last month. He placed Caron Butler the 2nd of the top 10 diappointments. 2. Caron Butler, Washington A few years ago this was one of my favorite players, but something has happened and I don’t like it. I see a player that had a good body looking overweight and out of shape. He is not as explosive as he once was and most importantly I don’t see the hungry and dirty approach to the game in terms of a physical presence. He is shooting 42 percent from the field and that has to come up, but only if he loses a few pounds and works on his conditioning. Check this out if you want to read the whole article. http://blogs.hoopshype.com/blogs/johnson/ Just want to add something to discuss. Personally I have no idea about Butler. Actually I didn't follow a Wiz game. Also I have no memory of him in his early career with Heat and Lakers uniform.
We have a year to find out if he fits our system, and if he doesn't, he can be traded at the deadline next year or let go. Unlike Iguodala. I think he'd fit in well, though. He's better than his current percentage from the arch. Solid all-around team guy. The key thing is that he gives us an asset for Mcgrady, and we don't lose Mcgrady for nothing. Otherwise, we better hope and pray that we land Ginobili or someone else as talented with the MLE in the offseason, or strike gold in the draft (which we could still do AND add Butler) ... or we're stuck with our current roster plus Yao. The question is, would you rather have our current roster (minus whatever we give up for Butler) WITH Butler -- a solid player and an expiring contract that could be coveted -- and maybe Haywood next year, or the current roster WITHOUT them? I'll take with. PILE ON THE ASSETS. Butler, Battier, Scola, Landry, Brooks, and Lowry will be coveted since they are good, cheap, and young (except for Scola and Battier). A Butler trade gives us another year to see what big name talent comes up in trade talks, with all of these parts being coveted. Or, he could help us land a high lottery pick via trading up.
WojYahooNBA The 3-way trade talks with Wiz, NY and Houston haven't progressed today, source says. NY and Wash waiting to hear from HOU to advance ball.
Financial implications, my man. We both know Iggy is better than Butler, but an Iggy/Dalembert package means we're taking back more salary, we would have to pay Dalembert's trade kicker upfront and in course of all this we put ourselves in salary cap hell for next year due to both deals remaining on the books. Basically, that's not a good position to be in whenever you have key rotation players (Scola, Lowry, Hayes) all entering free agency -AND- you plan to avoid paying the luxury tax. We don't really have this problem with the Butler/Haywood example. P.S. Welcome to the BBS
I'm thinking the Rockets are waiting to the 11th hour. But my wonder is will NYK and WSH wait alongside them.
good update I dont think the rockets are waiting for the 11th hour but most likely at least the all-star weekend. It gives Morey and Co a chance to talk to any and all the GMs in the league and see if anything even better comes up. Granted that washington may go elsehwere if they are waiting on Houston it sounds like at least whatever proposed deal is favorable to them over any other deals that they may get so I think they would be patient
from my understanding from reading this forum: iguodala has a few years on his semi-big contract and dalembert has an UGLY contract and wouldnt this hinder us from signing anyone significant in the offseason? we're basically hoping that AI can carry us to the next level?? i doubt he can. dont think he's that good guys. if we trade for butler and haywood, re-sign haywood for a few years, what would be our options via free agency this coming offseason? could we obtain anyone decent enough to help us with these pieces? could we still hope for bosh if the 3 way trade goes down?
This a great move and if it doesnt work out were set up to rebuild. Kevin durant is available and while most teams i predict will have gone crazy on the whole summer 2010.We will be in a perfect place to try and go after him.
The Mark Cubans and James Dolan owners don't win rings. It's the Peter Holt owners that win it more often, because they have more flexiblity. Peter Holt tried to get turn into Mark Cuban and picked up Richard Jefferson. Now they can't trade him.
