Who is to say Butler, with his 1 year, about $9 mil (I think) left can't be a part of a trade package in the offseason?

BTW, I don't believe there's any restriction that says S&T has to be 1 for 1. I believe Detroit got Ben Wallace and others for Grant Hill, for example.

Even with McGrady's contract off the books, we wont have the money to sign a Bosh or Wade, etc. We are currently over the cap and because of cap rules McGrady's contract will only free up about 8 million dollars next season. Any big signings next season would be possible, but a sign and trade would have to be done.

I say get anything we can at this point, especially if it doesnt involve a bad contract.

Maybe its possible that we could sign a max player outright (Bosh) with some creative maneuvering? If we could trade D. Anderson for a 2nd round pick / cash / expiring contract, trade Battier for an expiring and a pick (mid first like Toronto's?), and renounce Scola and Haywood? Like you said, Bosh would make up for losing Scola and Haywood, we'd keep Landry, and resign Lowry. Assuming of course that this C. Butler deal goes through...Not saying its likely, but perhaps possible?

If we did this now, Morey would have time to trade some of those expiring contracts for other players...

No wonder teams want Haywood then. Portland, Houston, they see him a nice piece in sign and trade for Bosh.

I agree with you. I do think they will ask for our 1st round pick as well, and that is a no-no for me.

The Wizards are gonna ask for our 1st rounder... they put a high price tag on Haywood.. rumor has it that they wanted Rudy and Batum from the Blazers for Haywood..

ALSO, I don't see why everyone would rather give away Budinger rather than our 1st round pick (mid 1st rounder, if this deal happens)...... come draft time Morey can buy a late 1st rounder.

Hayes? If we get Bosh, that's not really a concern for me. Maybe we draft a PF.

Is this deal really on the table? I can't imagine the Rockets turning this down. I know that they'd be way over the LT this year but Mobley's contract is 80% paid and expiring. Miller and Haywood are expiring and Butler only has 1 more year. And you aquire assets that are far more valuable than Cook, Ariza and McGrady. Then this summer, you sign who you want/can (maybe move Shane to free up more) and make a run.

They should take that deal IF it is on the table.

    And, how would you know?

I might be in the minority here, but I don't really see the Rockets making the playoffs even if a deal is made. If the Wiz would accept a lottery-protected #1 then I'd be OK with sending them the pick, but a lottery pick (even a late lottery pick) is worth alot more then C-Bud.

Plus, I think alot of people forget that C-Bud is a 4-year college player which means that while he's still young, his potential ceiling may not be as high as a 19-20 year old coming out of college. While I do believe he has room to grow, I don't believe its the massive growth that will turn him into an all-star player, and when you have a lottery pick your EXPECTING more then what I think C-Bud has the potential to become. Now those expections may not bere fruit, but its a roll of the dice you have to take.

I would love to have 1 of the 2 1st rd picks that belong to OKC and send them Battier as their "GLUE GUY" but I guess they think Thabo is their version of Shane. Imagine Morey with two 1st rd picks and what he could do?!?

Who knows, maybe DM would have already pulled the trigger on a deal, but the other team(s) has to be willing to pull the trigger as well.

Thats what im thinking, more attractive than Samuel Dalembert. I would try and package Haywood, Scola and Battier for Bosh or Amare

This trade proposal makes the most sense to me. New York wants to save money and maybe believes McGrady still has something left in the tank. Washington gets a proven scorer in Harrington and Houston gets a 20 ppg scorer and a decent 7 footer in Haywood. Best of all, the Rockets won't have to give up anything more than McGrady's expiring contract.

If they ask for our 1st round pick, then we'd almost certainly have to trade away Battier in a separate deal for a 1st. :(
