We wouldn't cross off all FAs because we would still have the MLE and LLE to work with, plus a 1st round pick and of course Yao being added to this team. That right there gives you 4 new pieces added to the squad which could be valuable not only to help them team next year but could be trade pieces at next years deadline. Another option is Battier getting moved to a contender for draft picks if nothing develops with McGrady or maybe even if he is moved. I'd be very excited to see what Morey does with not only one 1st rd pick but 2 picks or even using them to trade up in the draft?!?!
That's very possible with Morey's drafting crudentials.. I like C-Bud a lot, but between him and the #13-16 draft pick, I would rather give up C-Bud if Morey thinks we have high probability of getting a slipping talent from this year's draft.. Also, if we think from the other side of the shoe, Wizard would definitely want something good in return for them to part with Butler. Drafting a hidden gem is not their experty, so a player like C-Bud seems like a better choice for them..
This deal is on the table, but Les is too cheap. Spend money on the fans, and they will return the favor. Houston gets: Caron Butler (2 Years) Brendan Haywood (1 year) Mike Miller (1 year) Cuttino Mobley (1 year) Washington gets: Al Harrington (1 year) Trevor Ariza (4 years) Brian Cook (1 year) A Knicks second round draft pick. Knicks get: Tracy McGrady (1 year) The Rockets would get 3 key players they can all use in the rotation and will have a better chance of making the playoffs. They get a good look at these players and get to see how they fit in the system without the lengthy contract. They will have more flexibility in the 2011 free agency. The Wizards save around $7 million in this deal. They get two key rotation players in Ariza and Harrington as well as a draft pick. The Knicks will sell tickets.
It's a team that competes without it's star players which was gutted looks to me. I wonder (since you mentioned it) how many picks you can buy and combine them to keep moving as far up as possible? They baught Landry for around 2 million i think at what number?
I think what I'd really like the Rockets to do is trade for a solid player who can step into the starting lineup and produce, and he won't cost us an arm and a leg. A player like Caron Butler. But then, the Rockets need to be aggressive in the offseason in adding a star. Butler is nice, but he's not putting the Rockets over the top. Rockets won't have cap space to outright sign a max player, but they can pursue a sign-and-trade for one. For example, what would you give up for Chris Bosh? It seems unlikely he'd want to return to Toronto, so what if we offered them the following to get him at a max deal: a signed Scola, Landry, Battier, rights to Lull Butler makes up for the loss of Battier. Bosh more than makes up for the loss of Scola/Landry. And Lull, an intriguing international prospect, might be enough to entice Toronto. Would we be offering them too much? Not enough?
IF and thats a big IF we were to do this deal....We would challenge for the 3 or 4 seed in the West and the only reason I don't say the 2 seed is that we've falling to far behind the last few weeks. We would answer every area of weakness for the team shooter, scorer and interior presence...a guy can dream.
I used to think you could sign and tade packaged players. But then i read some where, that it can only be 1 for 1 deals. A sign and trade is impossible to make for Bosh, because we don't have a player 'this year' who demands that type of money.
I'm almost certain Daryl Morey has talked about sign-and-trade for a max player as one of the options before. Are you sure it has to be 1 for 1? I don't see why such a restriction would be there.
I like that trade too kinda like mine. But I think us giving them landry and scola is a steal for them honestly...
Yeah I don't think it's 1-1. Cleveland was talking about maybe signing Wally Z to include in any deal they may do to help it work under the salary cap or whatever. And didn't Dallas I think it was sign Van Horn a few years back to help complete a trade? Pretty sure you can do a S&T without it being a 1-1 swap/deal
Without trying to catch up on this Thread, please allow me to toss in my two-cents: Donnie Walsh is the slowest GM, perhaps in the history of the sports universe, to actually sign off on a deal. If it could have been completed yesterday it'll be another week. Or never. The man is molasses.
if..and thats a big IF..then you have to consider whether he wants to play in Houston. The odds are against a trade like IMO, although it could happen.
Yep, thats what i read on another board some where like 4 seasons ago. And i don't know why there is such restrictions either.
