well the trade is in our favor that's for sure... but the money may hurt later on when jamison is really old and yao signed an extention. also, that's assuming you can resign haywood and scola. both guys may want a large raise after this season. it's a risk that i might not take this year. i think before the rockets can commit to any large amount of future money they have to see what shape yao will return in.
I don't think Dallas really wants Butler or Haywood; they are just trying to mess with our effort to trade TMac and improve our team; now that they are involved Wizards have more bargaining power. Like you said, Damn the Mavs!
No, you maybe right, and I don't think he's untreatable by any means. I think adding him to the trade makes sense from a Wizards stand-point. All these guys a role players, and Chase along with Ariza will benefit the greatest from having legit star (preferably a big man, Yao), and their production and "ceiling's" will rise exponentially.
"The Y! report has Al Harrington going to Wiz, Butler to Rox. Obviously others would have to be involved to make up T-Mac's $23M salary. that Donnie Walsh has gone to see McGrady work out and might go again to see him before the Feb. 18 trade deadline" http://twitter.com/alanhahn/
Much like you (correctly) pointed out earlier in this thread that a player is only a second rounder until he's drafted, you can't simply quantify the odds of a draft pick's success based on the entire league drafting. The fact is, Morey has proven to have a key eye (or, in his case, brain) for talent and should have a higher success rate than the rest of the league. A more appropriate hypothetical would be this: If Daryl Morey could analyze every draftee in the past 6 or 7 drafts and then make up his own draft boards for those drafts, what would be the percentage of hits in his top 20 and who were drafted outside the top 10? I know, it sounds crazy. But that is essentially what you need to ask yourself before deciding how likely a "hit" would be with a late lottery to mid-first rounder.
Bima, having a mid first rounder gives Morey big time wiggle room in possibly moving up into acquiring a lottery pick or he could possibly move back into the draft and acquire two 1st rounders or a low 1st rounder and very high second rounder. I personally don't want to see him give up that pick and I don't think he will.
Thanks for the info, and I do think you can get a quality player in the mid first round. I just think the precentages of getting a star-quality player in that position are pretty low. It's a crap-shoot.
Right this is the 3rd time. I'm thinking a no Houston-McGrady trade any where is about as good for other teams too since they are already lined out for 2010-2011.
The Rockets main goal in making a three way trade with Washington and New York deal is to obtain Marcus Landry from the NY Knicks. When Landry becomes a free agent next year, Buddy Baker (Cobra Commander) will once again try to wiggle Landry from Moreys' iron grasp. As a bargining chip for Houston, the arrival of Marcus Landry will make it plausible for Carl to downgrade his demands. With the Scola trade, Landry will be able to become the starting power forward for the Rockets, meeting one of his requests. By the addition of Marcus, Carl will feel less tempted to want to relocate, as Marcus will serve as both a wing for the Houston Rockets, a late night body guard in any possible shooting scenerios, and also a matched blood donor in any annual catastrophic events. good point. while this type of analysis isn't my strong point, as it seems to be a great strength of yours, i'm trying to hang in here with you haha. i follow what you are saying, but isn't it just plain and simple to say that chase is playing like a top 15 rookie and there isn't a a great chance, certainly no guarantee, that we can do better in this years draft (if we draft 15-20)?
Exactly what I was thinking. We would be in a great position to move up in the draft if there is a guy that is worth it, after making a trade like this. Package our mid-first rounder with one or more of Butler's expiring, Battier, Landry or Scola (if we are going for a PF), Lowry or Brooks (if a stud PG is within our reach). This trade gives us so many chips it would be silly. You definitely hold onto the pick, if it's between that and Budinger. Maybe we'll strike gold and they'll take Taylor and Dorsey as the "young chips" ... Dorsey needs to pull a Kelvin Cato these next two games after the break.
I haven't thought through the LT implications, admittedly. That's what you are for. Putting more thought into it, it would be a tough one to take financially. To bring back everyone else and add Butler, Jamison, and Haywood next year would put our salary at 80+ million. You're right ... Scola would likely have to go. Battier would probably need to be traded also.
Thanks for the post. Feedback time: 1) McGrady isn't being bought out....he can keep dreaming. 2) Washington does seem the most likely deal. 3) That being said....I don't see any deal going through.
Thats right which is why hey need to shift plans else where. these teams won't make deals unless it move salary and/or get back something. A no deal is a good deal to for those other teams.
if he can find a second-round player who's playing like a top 15 rookie, he may also be able to get a top 5 rookie despite we draft 15-20
Of course 'nothing is imminent' when your talking with the Knicks. Talks will be just talks to pass the deadline up is what they are trying to achieve.
