So you choose Butler over Bosh next season and in 2011 take a shot at Durant which could be a possibility? Depends on what management decides. If there was something better out there of course you do it. But many are desperate and in panic mode and will settle for Butler than do it. I'll settle for this if it was available. I'd rather stay safe for the long-term than stay safe for the short-term. Going this rout you actually upgraded a position too though it costed you Ariza, thats the key to 2011. Houston: Bosh, Curry, Jeffries, Hill +5 wins Toronto: Lee, Nash +2 wins New York: Amare, Calderon -4 wins Phoenix: Landry, Ariza, McGrady -4 wins
Hey!!! This is close to copyright infringement!!! "Put the bong down and back slowly away." is a Mav-Hater exclusive
he's not restricted but we would have his bird rights; meaning we would be able to go over the cap to sign him without penalty.
For the love of sweet baby Jesus, just get something done, Morey! The waiting (and lack of production) is killing me!
I also think we will have to take on Stevenson in this deal who still have 1 more year left in his contract. NY would probably send Darko and Harrington to WAS to make the salary work. After this I suspect Morey will try hard to move Battier for a young asset and or expiring contracts.
Damn the rockets are committing murder with this trade. I'm not sure if I would do this if I'm the other teams
butler isn't a long term solution. he's only signed until 2011. next year at the deadline he will be a very good asset as a $10M ending contract. haywood probably won't resign, depending on how much morey is willing to spend on a backup center. now as for the trade itself, as many people have pointed out there are pieces missing. i have a feeling dorsey and nate will be going to washington because they have both been giving a lot more playing time than usual lately. here is my attempt to fill those in: Houston gets: Butler, Haywood, stevenson Washington Gets: Harrington, Mobley (immediate savings), robinson (fulfills young player requirement), dorsey (same as robinson) NY gets: tmac
The problem is Haywood is going to be a FA and command a hefty salary. People are assuming that Haywood would fill our backup center void -- well that's not possible unless he's willing to accept a pay cut and a reduced role, two things which I suspect he would NOT be inclined to take. This deal really only nets us Caron for next year and not much else. But I don't see this trade happening unless New York has agreed to trade Hill or Douglas -- one of them would have to be shipped to the Wizards. The Wizards have been adamant that they aren't trading Caron for cap relief, and have asked for Rudy/Batum in return for JUST Haywood. I'm thinking for Caron/Haywood, the Wizards would be looking for a young asset (Hill/Douglas) and a draft pick. Houston trades: McGrady/2010 1st Round Pick Houston gets: Caron Butler/Brendan Haywood Washingon trades: Caron Butler/Brendan Haywood Washington receives: Al Harrington/Rockets 2010 1st Rounder/Jordan Hill/Darko New York trades: Al Harrington/Jordan Hill/Darko New York receives: McGrady/Foye I'm not sure the numbers match exactly (more expiring contracts probably would have to be involved), but I think this is the basic framework of the deal. New York has been reluctant to give up Hill/Douglas, but as the deadline nears and they see their LeBron dreams fade, they may be willing to part with one of those to get a first hand look at McGrady with the option of re-signing him. From a Rockets standpoint, I HATE giving up our 2010 1st rounder, especially when we're just getting back Caron. I know Caron's a great player, but I would've thought McGrady + 1st rounder would net us more than Caron. I'm not factoring in Haywood because I think the probability we re-sign him is very low -- he's going to want big money and a starting gig.
Houston gets: Butler, Haywood, Milicic New York gets: McGrady, Hayes Washington gets: Hill (the rookie), Harrington, 2010 1st rounder from Houston (lotto protected) I like this deal.
Honestly there isnt much were giving up in our 2010 first rounder when you think about it. Other than Brandon Jennings there isnt really any first rounder this year that has made much of an impact other than the guy from sacramento...(cant remember his name). Everyone seems to be looking toward the 2010 free agency...which i doubt is in moreys plans unless he is planning to get really lucky. 2011 is what Morey needs to be going for. We would have a very very young team, the oldest player probably being Yao, and have enough money with those expirings to pick up Carmelo or Durant. With our young role players and a duo of Yao/Durant...we would be contenders for YEARS to come. I personally would rather have Durant because he is not nearly as selfish as Carmelo, and he fits better into Adelmans system Again, just a thought.....It would be like having the Tmac/Yao combination..except this time around we actually have players OTHER than Tmac/Yao who can score, an actual point guard(s), and a Star wing player who doesnt command the ball and ruin the offense
I like it, gives us a guy that can create on his own and a legit center to play without YAO or give us a combo like SHAQ/Z when the big fella comes back.
i think it makes us better this year and doesn't hurt us in the future. not every trade can be the one to make us a championship contender again.
On Haywood, I agree it might be a bit of a stretch to re-sign the guy but he would help THIS season a lot and if Morey/Les thinks he is good enough they might re-sign him as insurance for big bucks just in case Yao doesn't come back right. One thing on the trade suggestions I've seen is that the Wiz want to get under the LTax so they can't take on to much salary to be able to take advantage of this. I think Mobley will be the missing piece to this puzzle and it will be us who take his contract on not the Wiz that way they get the benefit of a young player, probably Bud, and LT relief.
