WTF indeed. Our best scorer for the Magic's backup? Must have been other names not mention in the deal as well. At least I hope so. What the hell Morey?..
Morey liked Gortat but I can already tell you he wasn't going to want VC which almost assuredly was to come here.
I'm not buying it. There would have to be a hell of a lot more to any deal that included Martin for Gortat. Hey, can I get a job making stuff up and throwing it on the wall? Is the pay good??
I am sure more players were involved. but why Martin? I am pretty shocked considering the numbers he has been putting up.
It makes sense. Courtney Lee is younger, cheaper, a better defender and just as good of a spot up shooter. We'd take a hit at the SG spot, but not as much as we'd gain if we were able to land a legitimate shot blocking presence. FWIW, I believe Ken Berg is highly reputable.
Exactly....and the fact that we need to clear playing time for Twill too..... Our wing rotation might be: Lee, Twill and CBud for the future...with Battier and Kmart gone. Got to be nimble now that Yao is out of the picture. I am a little dissappointed that Morey went after Gortat though.....should go after Thabeet......Gortat has peaked. DD
LMAO. Are you kidding me? A legitmate shotblocker doesnt help if your best and most efficient scorer is traded. Have you watched any of the games? We have a niche for going thru terrible offensive dry spells that have costed us one too many games. And you think we should answer that by trading our best offensive player to go thru more dry spells? TERRIBLE idea buddy, I pass
Offensively Martin is miles ahead of Courtney Lee, that and I wonder if Lee has any upside left (I wouldn't mind having him start, he is a big defensive upgrade over Martin but he is not nearly as good as Martin has been playing on offense). Of the top of my mind I would see us proposing Martin to get J Rich and Gortat in return.
That may be, but unless there was a lot that we don't know (and we don't know diddly, of course!) about a possible deal that didn't go through, one that would somehow make sense, I'm still not buying it. You never know about Morey's machinations. He never fails to surprise me with his deals, so something like this would have fit his history, now that I think about it. I hope I live long enough to read the book Morey will no doubt write about his career as a GM.
I am not a MOF or worshiper, but I have fantasized about this, that “tell all” is one book I am looking forward to read in my retirement.
Who knows what the actual trade was and if there were other moving parts to it, but I like the idea of it. Gortat's deal is about fair market value for a big man like him while Thabeet's contract pretty expensive relative to on court performance. I wouldn't mind rolling the dice on him if all else fails, but let's be real the guy is a major major project with very little offensive game. Gortat has at least proven that he can start and contribute. Anyhow, glad to see Morey is looking to move on from iron pyrite Martin while he is healthy and trying to make the team more defense oriented.
How does trading our best shooter help the team? Can someone explain it to me please. I don't get it.
