Do you think his current team will let him go without buying out his current contract (If he is under contract now)? I don't think he is going to use his own money to settle his current contract like Yao did.

All those examples in the links were vets. In your second link it suggests Rookie contracts are bound by different rules.

Heat can't afford that and their owner has set a hardline against luxury tax.

Wow, if true, then rumours of VSPan sucking may also be true.

Think about it. If he was so great in practice and only needed an offensive minded coach to give him the chance- then it would be perfect for him to stay.

He has no competition except for Rafer. The starting job is wide open for him.

But he runs away. So he must suck.

Only as far as the guaranteed salary is in case the team waives the player (e.g. the 80% skills case for rookies) without the player's desire.

The part where it says that the team and player can reach a mutual agreement for the buy out doesnt mention whether the player is a rookie or not...

Maybe they have some other trade in the works that would put them under in combination with the fact that they have a lot of expiring contracts (6 to be exact) worth a total of around 12.4mill....?

Dunno.. when i get more details I'll post them

He has (like most euro-players) an NBA buyout clause...i.e. he can buy out his contract for a fixed amount of money if he is to move to an NBA team

as far as I know it's not very high

"Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me", did I say it right?
"The starting job is wide open for him"? Right, that must be what CD had told him a year ago.

Thanks! That makes sense. I think it is all because of the NBA $600,000 - $700,000 team buyout limit.

Rookie contracts signed by first round picks are a different story.

The final word on this buyout nonsense
    http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#60

I've posted this before and alex has posted it in the thread. Once again, Larry Coon is extremely clear on the answer:
The only question is how an option year affects this -- whether the buyout hit affects just this year, or this year and next. Either way, the Rockets are over the cap, and since any buyout would be less than Spanoulis' already small salary, you're talking about an impact of less than 1.5 million, capwise. For an already over the cap team, that's pretty insignificant.

That's less than the impact of Matt Maloneys, Charlie Wards, and even having Sura sit out the last 2 years.

Well, Van Gundy made it clear that at least the backup job was wide open in training camp and preseason...and both of them (Lucas and Spanoulis) sucked.

I think whether V-Span stays or goes depends on whether Adelman wants him and makes that clear to him or not.

I don't think Adelman can know for sure until he gets him into practice and game situations. I mean, he probably prefers to have him (better than nothing), but that won't guarantee playing time.

So Spanoulis is getting paid to quit? If he really wanted out, could he agree to a $0 buyout?

why dont you read alex_jr's post, he is in Athens and has confirmed that this is just a recycled article from over a week ago. Nothing has happened and everything is just he said she said speculation.

Well...if he really wants out, he can and he will..Theres no way he will ask for anything more than to be allowed to continue his career somewhere else

Come on be fair, I have been all over Bonzi all year long, go find the "Bonzi doesn't fit here thread"......

I think both Bonzi and JVG are copable. As both V-Span and JVG are also copable, it takes two to tango.
