Man, what do we have to start over? We put all the eggs in this basket. Now it is broken.

I used to defend the medical staff but to me they underestimated the injury. How can you let an injured player go over seas (traveling 20+ hrs on a plane takes a lot out of you, even if Yao's going first class) is beyond me. They should've strapped Yao down and tell him he aint doing squat for the next few months besides sitting eating and sleeping.

Rockets medical staff are simply clueless. Did they get their degrees from cereal boxes?

    This sucks. Duh!

We have to wait a year or so on Yao. We should not trade Yao, but hope that he can recover with a year or two off. Based on Bill Walton and others I would think that this might be possible.

If we are sure that he is done, we have a fire sale and go for the number one pick in the lottery. Play all the young guys. Wait for Tracy to come off the books or only trade him for picks and young guys. No Artest. Scola and Battier are gone for picks, too.

The question is whether while we wait of Yao for the next year or two we should proceed with a total rebuild/ firesale. I need to think about what we should do while waiting on Yao, but I tend to think we should go the rebuild route.

the day after game 3, they said it's nothing serious. 8 weeks and he's ready to go.

with his history you should monitor yao DAILY or WEEKLY. *******.

All the Yao haters have ammunition against the YOFs now.

To be honest, as much as I loved Yao, I wanted a rebuild to take place well before this news, as I feared this to happen.

The great things is that we have amazing role players. We may not need to do a complete rebuild here like Portland, but rather keep our core. I'll take what ever happens next season with a grain of salt. Not a big deal.

Seeing how we performed without Yao, we may not do too bad. Possibly just miss the playoffs.

I say we enter the 2010 sweepstakes and pick up some stars to play with our core, and we could be the next Boston Celtics in the 10-11 season.

Come on guys, are you REALLY suprised? Sure, nobody expected that but that how it goes with this team. It shouldn't be suprising at all. We can love Yao, he may have a great talent but he just can't play bball. Too big.

We have to understand that and go on.

I agree! Look at the injuries Rockets had these seasons. I thought we were cursed. Now, I know the reason. Go back to Tmac's situation. He might have made a right decision. Perhaps, we were misled by our team doctors.

There's a reason why McGrady went to Grover.

I know this may be too early to bring up this subject but if Yao retires this season, do we get capspace?

Don't hate me for asking; I was all for another run for a championship with Yao as the core this upcoming season.

I say we bomb this enitre season and get the #1 draft pick. we have been waiting for a season where everyone is healthy for so long. play all the bench players this season, let them build up confidence than return with Yao, Tmac, Scola, Artest Battier, all improved bench players, and the #1 draft pick.

It sounds dumb, but the way things are going you have to consider it. it looks like weve gone from Clutch city to CRUTCH city.

If he doesn't hate money, he will not retire.

    Sad and shocking

But Morey has to make very good decisions right now.

Don't even try to plug holes.

We need a completely new strategy.

Right now I think the core players to keep are:

    1. Scola
    2. Brooks

You do not trade Landry, Battier, or Lowery unless you are sure you are getting a plus towards rebuilding in return.

You do not sign any stop gap free agents.

In fact you start looking for draft picks.

I repeat we will need draft picks.

Then we must look hard to develop young players.

Finally we are very careful with free agency.

Nothing would be worse than it already is than making free agent mistakes that will prolong the agony and cause future problems with cap and flexibility.

omg.. this is very bad news. We just got out of the 2nd round, brooks and landry are developing quite nicely, artest fitting in real well, everything seems to indicate that we are going to have a bright future. Then this happens..

I think by doing this it sets us back to far. We have a good group of young guys. Agree we should no longer rebuild around Yao, but this team can run. Build on that.
