Man, I hate to see Yao go down like this. This is very sad and VERY BAD news. Just think, we took the Lakers to SEVEN games without a STAR player who was injured. We had GREAT hope for this season but injuries again may make us fall.

My plans would be to sign Gortat and make him center. He would be a great addition. We should keep McGrady and let his contract expire BECAUSE there is no point of getting other bad contracts. I'm so disappointed.

lol why would Minnesota trade healthy players(al jeff or rubio) for a guy who will be on the IR the entire time. I would be of more use than Yao, at least I can suit up.

Trying to think forwardly, wouldn't it be funny, and fun:

If Yao bows out, Morey finds a big like only he can, Tracy comes back to life, Chad & JT tears up the Summer league, Brooks exceeds expectations, rank second in the conference, take the Lakers to 7 again...and win and lastly, take the trophy in 5.

    Well, it would be fun...

You're now free to continue your "we're fcked" chorus.

    1) Don't re-sign Ron.
    2) Tank like crazy next year.
    3) Let Tmac expire.
    4) Try to get an injury exception on Yao.

If all goes according to plan, we have 20-23 million in capspace to go along with a high lotto pick. And we get to keep Brooks, Landry, Battier, Hayes, and re-sign Scola to up to $8 mil to start. We're obviously not a major player in the FA market, but outside of NY and Chicago we're just as attractive as anyone else. We're not Milwaukee here.

Any options for Rockets with Yao?

Would there be any teams interested in a trade for Yao considering insurance would be picking up his $16.3m for next season if he's indeed out? His PO would scare teams away but if he declares he would not pick up the option he would be a very appealing expiring. If he does pick up the option then he becomes a $17.6m expiring for '10-'11. Or......

Do we hold onto him and hope for the best? His history of injuries are not promising. I personally think it's time to go in a different direction. Yao is an awesome person/player but while his size has been his best weapon it has also been his worst enemy.

The only team that comes to mind that is desperate to save money would be the Hornets. Wishful thinking but maybe something along the lines of Yao for Chandler.

I think we end up keeping Yao and having his $16.3m sit on our cap. Though this is something we should be used to by now considering T-Mac or Yao seemed to always be injured throughout the season.

Any other options/opinions? Probably reaching here but looking for some kind of hope for the upcoming season.

I don't expect this team to QUIT competing like the have these years. We can still BE a REALLY solid team if we get a good starting center (Gortat, Chandler) and maybe resign Artest for a year. Assuming we don't trade our main pieces:

    PG Brooks
    SG McGrady
    SF Artest
    PF Scola
    C T. Chandler or Gortat

    Bench:
    Battier
    Wafer
    Landry

    Still solid.

If we dont re-sign Ron which we shouldn't and he probably won't like to re-sign here anyways, now. Then I don't see what the point of having Hayes, Battier and Scola is either. Trade them to teams on the brink of a championship for youth/future picks. As much as it would pain me to see them in other uniforms I'm sure the Spurs would love Battier and I could see us agreeing for a bad player with an expiring contract + pick. Scola and Artest would also field us very nice pieces for the future. Teams don't plan to tank like crazy with Scola or Battier on the roster.

No comments on this. Says a lot about Rockets' doctors. I hope McGrady is gone too. Time to end it.

FIRE EVERYBODY. Change owned, change the name of the franchise and start all over again.

It's not fun to think about, but...

Realistically, if you want to rebuild, you have to go all in.

If we are going to rebuild, just getting a couple of FA's to get by so that we are an 8th, 9th, or 10th seed is a bad move. We would want to be bad enough to have a good chance at a top pick in the lottery.

Getting Ron back, and getting a semi-decent big man replacement for Yao, I think we could make the 8th seed. But that is a bad strategy for rebuilding.

Im not gonna say we should tank but if Yao is out, go in with what you have. No need to resign Ron or go out and make a move besides maybe a 1 year deal with a C.
