We all just have to realize something, the media wants to create stories to get our interest. Nothing better than a Yao out for next season story to get people from around the world to read. Now, I'm not saying it isnt true, but the news doesn't always tell the whole truth <cough> fox news <cough> :p

I really hope the writer is just speculating because he heard Yao is going to a couple more doctors, and assumes that to mean he is really hurt and may be out for a long long time.

Now look. I'm by no means a major journalist, but I am pretty sure that the use of unnamed sources is heavily frowned upon because credibility is severely lost. The way the story is written is completely with bias (e.g. Morey refused comment... For now, the Rockets have season tickets to sell...) and I just am a bit skeptical that we have lost Yao Ming forever. The off season is long, gentlemen. Let us at least maintain our famous public skepticism for just a few more hours.

Some people say if we lose one star we have the other to get us in the playoffs. For what? All you get is a very low 20th pick. This team needs to get in the LOTTERY for a couple of seasons and REBUILD. We need to move away from the Drayton McLane mindset. So I rather not get Amare ... I want to let Morey build a team that is young and that plays hard.

If this news is true, like I think it is, then Yao most likely played his last game in the Lakers series. I wouldn't be surprised if chooses to retire. Sad sad day. I hope it is not as bad as the writer made it sound.

This is obviously unconfirmed and very premature, but if Yao's career did have to be cut short I'd feel terrible for the guy. He has such a great heart and wants to win so much, and one of the few guys that still has loyalty and cares about the team and the fans.

Him being out for the season would be tough, but permanently would be devastating.

What bothers me is that even the subtitle for the piece is speculative: "Are the Rockets facing a future without Yao Ming? NBA sources say the team fears Yao's career could be in jeopardy. "

It's not definite, yet the entire piece is being used as fact.

I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE BEING A ROCKETS FAN.

Nothing but massive disappointment for over 10 years.

forget Artest, I say we tank next year. No Yao, no t-mac, 40 million off the books in 2010. We have a 1st round pick next year. Draft John Wall or whoever the best prospect is. Spend big $$$ in free agency. Could be a 1 year rebuild but will transform us into a whole new team.

Well, at least the 2010 Free Agency is just one year away, so we could be back into contention very soon.

Can't get much worst if this is true.. Losing Yao my favorite player! Losing China's money! Rockets rebuilding after taking the NBA Champions to game 7! Well at least he put out his final game which greatly helped us win

Agressively try to trade him now for whatever we can get along with T-Mac.

on the flip side.. Amare wants to be Lebron/kobe/wade-esque.. he wants to be the man on the team.. probably this was the news he was looking for..

but i don't want him.. if morey is smart .. he would not rebuild with Amare as the center piece.. it makes no sense..

time to go the OKC thunder way..

Yao's injury status is bad news. BUT, this really puts things in perspective.
Do we want to resign Ron Artest? A behaviorally troubled, Dribble-first kind of guy who will no longer be on his contract year? Tmac... ah Tmac. He will certainly play his hardest this year (a-la Artest 2009), and that will be nice. And if we keep him this year.... Fat load off salary next year. Everyone knows NEXT summer is THE free agent year. So 1 year of mediocre basketball featuring Tmac playing his hardest (whatever that may be), little if any Yao, and our role guys.

Now fast forward to summer of 2010.....

ASSUME: Artest salary dumped. T-Mac salary dumped.

    ASSUME: Yao has healed.

If we keep Yao we have some interesting possibilities:
Yao/LeBron, or many other 3 star combos: Yao/Nash/Redd Yao/Roy/Ginobili etc.

And if we dump Yao? Take Bosh at Center and have Bosh/Lebron, Bosh/Nash/Redd, Bosh/Roy/Ginobili etc.

We are rich in prospects and young talent.
We have Daryl Morey at the helm, and the title hungriest coach in the NBA.

In summary, if we can stomach 1 more year of 45-55 wins, the Rockets roller coaster may finally end.....

    And the dynasty will begin.

I see your point but I like Amare especially if the Rockets can resign Artest ! Amare is the new small center the NBA is going to anyway
