No. but media attention gives a team lots of rep. This helps sign FA's. In case you forgot, The Rockets were nowhere on Bosh' wishlist, and no FA wants to come here because of the picture painted by the media about the Rockets.

If the Rockets want to turn around media perception, how about winning the division and making a deep playoff run? How about going through a season without suffering a devastating injury to a star player? Can't fault outsiders for having lowered expectations anymore. The Rockets are routinely cast as the "dark horse" and basically have never lived up to it. Almost everyone admires the Rockets' grit and toughness -- Kelly Dwyer in particular has praised the team for these qualities on a number of occasions. But its time to start winning.

houston has never gotten love from the media. i dont know why ppl expect it now. even after we win another championship, theyre goin to say the opposing team had an off night, is on the decline, hasnt had time to gel, or "if MJ was there...".

get used to it. anyway, imo under the radar is better than overrated.

Not necessarily talking about high expectations. But even then, the media overrates them. But the other thing is, every time there's a big name player available, NY automatically is entered into consideration as a possible destination, no matter how little they've got.

Carmelo would not be a rental. Not with Morey. It will be a S&T or it won't happen. As far as the Knicks go, why would Carmelo choose them over the Nets? The Nets have a new (and presumably smart) owner, and a skilled big man.

The Nets are in the lead. How could they not be?

Does Carmelo put the Rockets over the top? No. Does he get them closer? Yes. Might signing Carmelo make it easier to attract other star players? Of course.

    Get er done!

That is the main reason why I would go after Melo. All these superstars like LeBron, Bosh, Wade, CP3, Melo, Amare, and Deron all obviously want to play with each other, not against each other.

Signing Melo will increase the odds of CP3 or even Deron Williams to sign with us.

Kelly Dwyer seems to have turned a leaf with the Rockets. I suppose giving us love wasn't getting the kind of hits he needed so maybe making our team sound like garbage of the earth will. Not gonna click until I see something substantive though.

Good luck all you NBA "sportswriters". Get a scoop once in a while instead of letting Wojnarowski bogart all the inside sources and you might make your career last a little longer.

The author of this article makes the ridiculous-almost-beyond-belief mistake of assuming any of these teams would make that trade for just a one-year rental, with no guarantee of an extension. Morey wouldn't trade those three players for Anthony without an extension. This writer totally discredits himself.

Color me elated that the OP posted the entire crappy article here so that nobody need click the link. From an accuracy of content, grammar, and writing style standpoint -- that article was ****ing pisspoor. So it'll be extra satisfying now if the author waddles back here with yet another tantrum about how Clutchfans stole his clicks 'n hits

Oh he probably will.. some foul mouthed tirade no doubt. I actually think a Lebron James fanboy would have a better knowledge of NBA basketball than old Sandy Vag Dwyer does. Why on earth should we let him get clicks for terrible articles? I'm happy to say when I see him write a good one I will happily click on it. Oh and don't think i'm just a homer and upset because he hates the Rockets... just look at some of the terrible lists hes made and the points to justify them... look at any and you will laugh.

Well maybe we could start going far into the playoffs if FA's stopped dogging us. I don't blame them because most of them believe the media hype.

It doesn't matter if we are winning or not. We all agree here that the Rockets have a prolific set of championship calibre role players, ready to support a superstar, but every superstar doesn't even know that because the media makes us out to be a borderline playoff team even with a Healthy Yao? WTF is that?

How about the Heat? Even with Wade, I would say that the Rockets were a more complete team last year. We just had chemistry issues with the Martin trade, which should now be ironed.

Even then, the Heat could land the big 3 we absolutely no supporting cast, because Wade already brought media hype to the heat. We have no player with media hype other than a perrenially injured Centre. Martin is a legit all-star, but the media won't give him props because he isn't marketable since he is so skinny. Instead, the media rides Melo's nuts, who is only a small upgrade to Martin when you consider that martin's playing style fits into our system better than Melo.

Really? And how exactly are we gonna afford Yao, Battier, Brooks, Martin, HIll etc. with Melo and still be able to sign CP3? The cap's around 60M, Melo and Yao and Martin will already cost 50M.

The Miami Heat was a once in a 100 years type of thing. Don't expect it to be replicated anytime soon, not with the CBA clamping down on even more spending and a "franchise tag" in the works.
