I play the XBOX 360 version sometimes (when I'm in a nutty mood). It has different music, board themes and no paper money. But the board shape is still square thank god. I do agree that round is going over the edge and there is no turning back.
I hate the new board, and the extreme inflation. Love the ATM card idea though. I'd buy it, and use the ATM cards, but use my old board.
I love the fact that the article says a lot of the techies don't like because they will no longer be able to cheat as they steal from the till - that being one of the down falls of the new version. But I agree with all of you, this has FAIL written all over it - $2 million for passing Go, gimme a break......
Oops? Sorry I had to do this until the 2nd page: <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Cj1wcs7SZj0&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Cj1wcs7SZj0&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>
who gives a crap? the original will still be on the market. the debit card monopoly has been around prior to this...
I agree. I didn't think any of the other changes sounded too bad, but adding the music is just stupid.
I'm down with the round board, though the square made counting moves so easy. But, music is dumb and the inflation is dumb. It'd feel more like the Republic of Congo than Atlantic City having to collect $2M just for passing go. Rent in a seedy hotel of 4.5M? I hope its in Central African Francs. I also don't know if I'm thrilled with the ATM, but not because of stealing. What about house rules, like a Free Parking pot?
we used to play a much quicker version of the game (1-2 hours) where we divided up all the money evenly, then auctioned off all the properties - the bank got restocked and w/ the remaining money you could start buying hotels. we also allowed a round of trading properties before the game actually began - this pretty much solidified all the monopolies befor the game even starts. basically just cuts out the boringist, most time-consuming part of the game.
Seriously? It sounds like you cut out the only interesting part of the game. All that's left is the long, slow slugfest of the very gradual accumulation of wealth by one player and the expense of the others where everyone knows who will win in the end but it'll still take an hour to get there.
It must be a cold day in hell, but I agree. I learned a lot about finances by being a Monopoly whiz growing up. This change blows.
not at all. like i said, you can run the whole game in under 2 hours. its not long or slow at all - its pretty fast paced (at least for a 12 year old!). you cut out the time spent building up and developing your monopolies, as most of the them are solidified before the game even starts. its high-stakes/cut-throat stuff... not that ive played monopoly much in the last 20 years or so, but i remember playing that way being alot of fun.
Anybody play the new Life? It's called Life: Twists and Turns. It takes about an hour to figure out how the hell to play. But once you do figure it out, it's actually pretty fun. It feels more like real life than the original game ever did, because with the new version you can actually choose what you want to do. If you just want to get married and make babies you can. If you want to spend you're whole time making money go for it, or you can spend the whole game getting a doctorate. Or just do a little of each. There's a lot more strategy involved it seems.
The board sucks A$$! Seriously, this is sad. Everything now days, is turning out to look exactly like Back to Future II, lol.
