Bulls trying to work deal for Lee

The Chicago Bulls are still pursuing shooting guard Courtney Lee, offering a first-round draft pick to the Houston Rockets, sources said.

Chicago could make the offer more intriguing with the addition of the Miami Heat’s 2011 first-round pick that the Bulls acquired from Toronto for forward James Johnson on Tuesday. For now, the Rockets are determined to bring back size and want Bulls center Omar Asik in any package for Lee.

The Bulls are determined to find a shooting guard before Thursday’s deadline.

Lee for a late first rounder would be a bad deal. The odds are not very high that a late first rounder would be a better player than Lee.

Been talking to a few of my Celtics buddies, and I had no idea how many people in Boston love Battier, and absolutely want to make a deal.

But then again, Boston obviously doesn't need him for the scoring punch

Maybe something will come of it.

Is that supposed to be a joke, right? Lee is definitely better than a late first round pick in the faintest of my conscience. Come one Bulls. You are better than that, aren't you?

Agreed. The Bulls can keep that pick and try to find a starting shooting guard for next season. Good luck.

I might trade Lee for both firsts. We need some more picks, and we can do without Lee. Is he worth more? Maybe, but two firsts might get us further along in the direction we need to go. 1st-round picks are trade assets, plus a way for DM to get us help.

The Bulls are under the cap. At worst, they can absorb Lee's salary and send us the Charlotte and the Miami picks. But Lee's worth more. I'd rather keep Lee and upgrade the 3 by trading Kevin Martin, but easier said than done.

More likely they send Asik and the Miami pick, waiting til the last minute, as Noah returns from his time off.

So Chicago has Asik, its own 2011 first rounder, Miami's 2011 first rounder (from Johnson trade), and a protected Charlotte pick (that is unlikely to have value in the next two-three yrs). There was a prior report that Chicago had traded Johnson for Toronto's 2nd round pick, which IMO would be more valuable than any of the first round picks that Chicago owns.

Unless Morey has a different trade locked in, I cannot imagine that some fashion of Asik for Lee does not go down. They are truly idiots if they don't do this because they have a legit chance to win it all. Rose/Lee backcourt is incredibly athletic and strong on the defensive end. Lee can catch and shoot from Rose's drive and kick.

Asik is the most valuable asset that Chicago has to offer, and the offer of a 1st rounder is weak sauce.

Chicago is waiting to see if Charlotte deals Wallace or Jackson. If that goes down, then Chicago will deal the Charlotte pick because it won't vest for years.

If not, I can see Asik for Lee straight up. As for the rockets, we would be foolish not to do this.

Lee lacks the upside to develop into a plus starter. He is a good rotation player on a contender, but that's a luxury we don't have.

We need to flip Lee for Asik, who has upside and fills a need.

Chicago is waiting on Mayo. Plain and simple. Once The Griz shut down all talks and realize that Mayo can help then while Gay is gone Chicago will come running back to Morey.

Do Chicago really want Anthony Parker over Lee? Thibodeau will get the man he wants and the Bulls will give to Morey's demands.

Parker is a decent defender and can knock down the open 3.

If Morey keeps asking for Asik in a Lee deal all the way down to the deadline, then Chicago will just pick up the much cheaper Parker.

Not that I have a problem with that. There's no reason at all to be cheap when it comes to giving up Courtney Lee.

Parker is a worse older version of Lee. I think Chicago prefers Lee but not willing to give up asik just for Lee. If Morey really wants his center perhaps he has to consider some small extra thrown in this time and stop being a cheap skate? I realize Asik is not the end all be all but if you have always missed being tall enough and they have what we want? Sometimes you just have to pull the trigger.

I'm not two sure about that. The Bulls want to make future playoff runs and Parker is ok and an expiring contract. Lee has more upside and is signed for less money and more years.

Will the Bulls choose the band aid or the answer for the present and future (Lee)? Morey is daring the Bulls to doubt themselves just like he did Donnie Walsh with adding Hill.
