Apparently he's an elite defender statistically. Hollinger has a huge boner for him.

i get your point. i am not saying he is a bust ...yet. i understand he still has time to develop. but he's a long way away and he's making 5 mil for the next 2 years.

Another thing from Chris Vernon's tweets: earlier today, Chris Wallace said, surprisingly, that they're interesting in trading for a PF.

true, considering our need in the middle, i'd go for it, especially if we get another piece, which i assume we would.

Thabeet has MAJOR bust potential but you cant teach height so why not give him a shot this and next season and if he does bust then we just don't pickup his option in 2012 and be done with it or he becomes a valuable expiring contract next year.

All I'm saying is that if people think J. Hill is a sub par player get ready for Thabeet because he makes J. Hill the next coming of Emeka Okafor

All we really need is him to stand around the paint and alter shots.

One problem there: The Rockets have to pick up Thabeet's option for 2012-13 by THIS October.

Basically, Houston would have ~24 games this season during which to decide whether Thabeet should be a Rocket through 2013.

True, but they have no center, so at least he would play here, and they would have all summer with CD etc, to find out.

I hope they can bring him in, why not...can't hurt....and hopefully they clear that logjam at SF/SG.

Why not a simple Jordan Hill for Thabeet deal? They can convince themselves that they can fix whatever shoddy coaching Hill's been receiving and we can do the same.

i don't know but i'd prefer trading brooks instead of lee. rockets can't use brooks as a trade chip on draft day and s&t in free agency deals usually only snare second rounders.

Just another reason why the Grizz need to sweeten the deal.

let's say we don't pick up his option:

if he doesn't play well - no big, great decision not to pick up the last year.

if he's serviceable - we can resign him at a slightly higher salary, since he probably will still be viewed by most as a "bust" and can't possibly ask for much more than his original, inflated contract.

if develops into a formidable starting center- there's no positive spin regarding this outcome, but i don't think it'd be that bad, he would still resign with us, in his adopted hometown, and for a more accurate salary than he was receiving in the first place.

if we do pick up his option:

assuming he doesn't develop at all next year, we bite the dust.
assuming he develops and makes for a good starter, we keep him at a now very friendly 2.5 mil and look smart around the league.
