Teams are hoping we buy him out and not willing to trade. I dont think Morey will get anything from him.
Morey's order of preference with Jeffries: (1) Use him as salary filler in trade for star player. (2) Jeffries plays out of his mind and becomes valued member of rotation. (3) Trade him plus cash/pick(s) to team under cap or with trade exception to reduce/avoid luxury tax. (4) Buy him out for some savings. (Highly unlikely after trade deadline) (5) Waive him outright.
Too bad for him. Thats not up to him. If we need him in a trade its not happening until this season is over or the trade deadline has passed at best.
if only he would think about dunking and focused more on making layups, after getting passes he wouldn't be too bad of a player. Missing wide open lay ups.. how does that happen if you get paid to play professional basketball.
I'm pretty fed up with hearing this BS comment. What do people think? Are professional athletes slaves? They get paid a lot, so they should sit down, shut up, do what they are told, play through injuries that will destroy their ability to walk when they are 50 years old, and constantly look and act happy no matter what their situation? The salary of professional athletes is determined by supply and demand. They get what they get, because WE CHOOSE TO PAY for merchandise, television, tickets, etc. They aren't thieves, but who here would turn down a huge contract? This doesn't mean that we own them. They have aspirations, and VERY SHORT careers. A typical NBA career might be 10-12 years long. If they spend 2 years riding the bench, then that could easily be 20% of their ENTIRE CAREER. I don't blame any player that has a passion to play basketball, and asks to be bought out. It isn't like Jefferies is mouthing off in the local paper either. It was one sidenote in a news article, and it sounded like insider information.
Exactly, and the flip side to that is that when Jeffries signed the deal, he knew it was a business, and something like this could happen. He won't be here beyond the deadline, so he is just going to have to be patient for about 5-6 more weeks. DD
Why would you say that? I'd say if they indeed buy him out it'll most likely be after the the trade deadline.
Sorry, I should have said "substantial savings." Yeah, if no trades go down involving Jeffries (either for a talent upgrade or for luxury tax relief), they'll probably end up buying out Jeffries for only slightly less (I mean, SLIGHTLY less) than he is owed for the remainder of the season in exchange for an accelerated payment of that amount. The Rockets save a little bit of luxury tax and open up a roster spot for a D-League tryout.
Did anyone catch JJ leading the pre-tip team huddle? I doubt he is anything but a vet leader on this team!
