I think when I said "those same people" I threw you off. I meant that politicians don't live up to the standards they set for poor people to.

It's crazy that the politicians want to rob you blind and then they try to make you follow rules that they themselves don't follow. Don't piss on me and tell me it's raining cause I know it is piss.

overrated. wall street doesn't do that and it's worked out pretty well for them. if they're going to take advantage of the system and get away with it, i'm not going to criticize anyone else for doing it.

I don't think the guy is as much of an ******* as people think he is.

If some local Geraldo wannabe reporter showed up unannounced on my door step and tried to play "gotcha" on live TV so he could make a name for himself, I probably wouldn't have been so nice.

    That's a real shame.

Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should, and it's an even worse justification to use someone else's crappy behavior to legitimize your own.

How would you guys feel if he donated a large portion of his winnings to charity, and then still lived off food stamps? Or if he kept his winnings in a savings account for his grandchildren to have a little bit of a better future, while still living off food stamps himself??

Good point. Incidents like this take the focus off of much larger problems. I don't have a problem with others demeaning him because it is wrong but there are much bigger fish to fry than this guy.

yeah, but to me, it's like freaking out at the guy who thumped someone on the ear when there's 8 guys beating the **** out of a guy right next to him.

If we adopt this whole "welp, wall street does it, so I don't really give a f*** who else does it until we get those bastards" then we're in for a serious sh**ty time.

I think we can walk and chew gum at the same time.

I'd be cool with it, as long as he wasn't black.

If he were younger I would rationalize it by dividing the after tax $1 mm to calculate his lifetime income, but at his age it's probably about $50k per annum.

This is a bureaucratic issue. If the government gives you something, tax cut or otherwise, most people don't give it back.

Did you not read the article? It's based off income not the amount of money you have total.
