I agree. Don't see Morey, for example, give up Martin + picks only to risk losing Melo as a FA to NY. But Feigan (and others) said Rockets are among teams he would sign extension with. Not sure if this changed or if Feigan is wrong.

You gotta ask yourself this question?

    Which lineup would you prefer?

    Brooks/Martin/Battier/Scola/Yao

    or

    Brooks/Lee/Carmelo/Scola/Yao

I'd that the latter in a heartbeat. Melo is a game changer if you aquire him. He commands the double team, something Martin doesn't.

You got that lineup, somebody's gonna be open. You just have to pick your poison. Leave Brooks for a potentional three? Leave Lee for another potential three? Leave Scola open for the midrange? How bout Yao at the post?

Melo, come on down to Houston baby! Your'e gonna leave your wife once you see our top notch strip clubs!

Of course the ones who question Melo's actual effectiveness on the court are the ones with poor b-ball knowledge, and people like you who automatically assume he's a top 3 offensive talent with no evidence whatsoever backing it up are the b-ball sages.

In terms of offensive potential alone, K-mart destroys Melo in terms of efficiency and versatility(awesome 3 pt shot and ft shooting vs no 3 pt shot and average ft shooting) so if your intention was to increase the offensive potential of this team it would actually be a step backwards. But hey, what do I know?

If you trade Martin for Melo you are upgrading in one area, and weakening in another pretty much a wash...

Martin is a FAR FAR FAR more efficient scorer, and he is not a knuckleheaded prima donna.

Neither of them is good on D, but Martin can hit the 3 ball that Melo can not.

I just don't see Morey giving up Martin for him, doesn't make sense....they both score nearly the same and Martin does it in far fewer shots and more efficiently.

I hope this is typical Feigen being wrong.

Melo is a top 3 player at his position. Can Martin say the same thing? I can name 5 guards who are better than him. Can't say the same for Melo.

With NJ possibly offering Favors, maybe the only way to stay in the running was to offer Martin. This trade would leave me with the same bittersweet feeling the Landry trade left me with.

Melo's defense is by far better than Martin's and that alone would make us significantly better.

Also by trading Martin, we could keep your best player on our team in Brooks. I know you love Brooks so that should be a win win situation for you. Keep Brooks and get Melo.

    Brooks will stay!

    Not me man.

Landry was with us for at least 3 years and fought with us tooth and nail. He had some memorable playoff incidents, such as the game saving block on Williams, loosing his tooth to Loozer, and posturizing Odom among others.

He took a bullet for us and came back in 2 weeks, and lost 2 teeth to Dirk and came back the following week.

Martin, well he was with us for only like 20 games. I have no emotional attachement to him, at least not yet.

Landry leaving caused some sleepless nights for me, a Martin trade would not.

Damn it all, man. I didn't want to lose Kevin Martin. Losing Brooks would hurt, yes, but Lowry can step right in. I don't know if I feel comfortable with Lee starting, even if he did start for Orlando. And who'll back up Lee? Jermaine Taylor? Or will we be picking up J.R. Smith in this trade too?

And we just traded for Martin last season! Ay dios mio. My brain wants Carmelo, but my heart wants Houston to keep Martin.

If this is just an essential Melo for Martin swap with draft picks and some young talent without giving up Brooks-Scola-Yao, I think we should erect a statue of Morey outside the TC.

It's basically giving up Landry, Dorsey, the Corpse of T-Mac for Melo.

Yeah I agree Favors is to much of an unknown, If we give them Martin + Hill + Draft pick, It kind of gives them the best of two worlds. But of course Jordan Hill's ceiling might not be as high as Favors, but its still pretty high. Given his raw physical ability, and already developed jump shot.

And if push comes to shove, we could offer Patterson instead of Hill in order to make it work.

I agree with this and really hope Feigan is wrong too.

Is Martin a superstar? No. I just feel like he brings too much of what Morey covets to the table.

I'm ok with a Melo trade, I guess, not sold on Martin being part of any deal.

It most likely has something to do with the recent interviews, and the fact that I'd been looking for us to nab Martin long before the trade went down.

Plus I'd really like to see what this 'completely healthy' Martin has to offer before shipping him off. This wouldn't be a deal-breaker were I our GM, but it would cause me to lose some sleep.

Oh well, I just hope we can hold on to Bud.

But Melo wouldn't be replacing Martin in our line up, he would be replacing Shane!

Courtney Lee would replace Martin in the starting lineup, and last time I checked Lee can knock down the 3 ball! Not to mention he would provide better defense than martin in our back court.

If you have a chance at aquiring a superstar like Melo, you have to go for it, even if it means risk losing a guy like Martin.

While Martin is a good player, he never really improved alot on the defensive end, even Morey called him out on it on radio. His offense is always good and efficient, but the game is played on both sides of the court. Also, I think this is the best will see out of Martin, just a high efficient, low volume scorer.

Melo on the other hand hasn't even entered his prime yet and is younger than Martin as well. He also has significantly improved every season that he's been in the league. His defense on Kobe in the WCF 2 seasons ago was quite impressive and he was quite physical, something Martin isn't. Also he commands a double team, something Martin hasn't done or learned yet.

But then we lose Battier's defense too...it is a lateral move.....

You get better in one area, bench our most important defensive player, meanwhile getting a guy who needs the ball, can't shoot the 3ball and doesn't play D.

I think overall, the team gets weaker with Melo for Martin.....and you lose the versatility you get with the roster now, it become much more narrow....which may not be a terrible thing.

Who knows, what if Denver wants Budinger instead of Battier?

They want young upside talent in return.

Assuming Martin is involved, this is a type of trade I see going down:

Kevin Martin + Chase Budinger + Jordan Hill + Jared Jeffries for Carmelo Anthony and JR Smith.

This would be the most balanced offense and defense team in the league.

    Assuming we sign Dampier.

    Brooks/Lowry
    Lee/Smith
    Carmelo/Battier
    Scola/Hayes/Patterson
    Yao/Miller/Dampier

We would have the size to compete with the big teams like the Lakers, Celtics or Magic and our backcourt of Brooks-Lee-Melo would cause severe damage to opposing defenses.
