How much credence do we put into the realgm article?

IF said teams offer said players, then sure, we'd have some hellacious competition.

But IS Golden State going to offer Stephen Curry? They love the dude.

And IS the Clippers organization going to offer Eric Gordon, especially as he's only become more valuable recently? (Isn't he playing at Worlds, and playing well?)

The Nets will offer Favors, sure, but Devin Harris would need to be routed to another team. Or Chauncey would have to go to another team. And he's a local favorite, so...

In any case, we don't know the direction that Denver wants to go. Do they want to rebuild and stay somewhat competitive at the same time, a team that people will pay to watch? And yet also shed payroll (hell, they're paying their new GM $200,000, which would be good money to me, but is really low for an NBA GM)?

I say if they want to stay competitive, we offer them Kevin Martin and some fillers.

Martin + Hill + Patterson + Jeffries + Harris + Johnson + NY 2012 draft picks and our own for Carmelo + Anderson + Smith

    Billups/Lawson
    Martin/Afflalo
    Harrington/Balkman
    Martin/Patterson
    Nene/Hill

That could still get them into the playoffs and they shed Smith and Anderson's salary.

    Brooks/Lowry
    Lee/Budinger/Smith
    Carmelo/Battier
    Scola/Anderson
    Yao/Miller/Hayes

ya know, at first i was getting frustrated with all these people against 'melo, but then i realized there will be haters even if we signed players like LbJ, or CP3...

He will make us a better team... that is a fact. you may not like him.. but he's a player that everyone wants a shot at.. he's a dominant player.

I'd be thrilled if we got him, but not too disappointed if we didn't.. i'm just curios if Morey is even relatively interested? or are we just making a huge deal out of nothing... everything we've heard is the Nuggets or Melo like us nothing about houston wanting him.

WTF do you want Morey to do?

Announce on his twitter page, go on the radio or go on ABC13 and say he's interested in Melo and wants him?

He doesn't want to be fined another 100 grand by the league.

I think if the Nets are willing to give up Favors and Harris, the Nets are going to win the bidding for Melo. The Nets could offer Favors, Harris, Humphries for Melo. They could also do a separate deal and deal Murphy for Nene. The Nuggets will probably ship Billups off somewhere and start to rebuild. I think Melo probably prefers to go to the Nets, and they will probably get him if they make a strong push for him.

    I told you guys.

    Melo wants to play for...

    1) NYK
    2) NJN
    3) LAC
    4) HOU

But hey at least we are on his list of teams he is willing to sign the extension with.
And as I said before, if anyone can pull it off it's Morey.

Okay, what if Morey knew the Nets were offering up Favors, Harris and some fillers, what do you think he would counter it with?

I think some people are overrating Favors and why would you want Harris on your roster when your already paying Billups and Lawson a crapload of money is beyond me.

At least with Brooks, he doesn't have a albatross contract like Harris.

I know a lot of people are really high on Favors, but he could turn out to be a bust. The appeal to Denver would be that he is cheap with huge upside. They would ship Billups off to another team. Brooks is cheap for now...but he is in the last year of his contract.

again I don't think you can draw the same conclusions from the lbj,Wade, bosh situation. They took less money because they were in control over where and who they played with. THEY decided to all play in Miami so all were willing to take a paycut. IF melo knew with the same certainty that he'd play in NYC with the knicks or nets WITH Amare and CP3 then sure they'd all take paycuts. The likelihood of them making a title run would be good therefore they'd all take less money. BUT there is no certainty the CP3 will be able to follow melo wherever he goes. The risk is higher that a trio won't work out since CP3 isn't a FA either, so the money has to be more attractive to get him there and overlook that risk. Melo has to believe in the organization to build a team that will rival the lakers and heat.

I feel like Morey isn't even interested in Melo at this point. Alot of sites have a bunch of teams offering a lot of different stuff but haven't seen anything regarding the Rockets. I know this stuff is usuallly kept on the down low but we haven't heard even a peep that the Rockets are even interested.

Morey is interested without a doubt. Probably got his poker face on.

Morey is defenitly after Melo. I think the Bosh fiasco left the Rockets Org with a bad taste in their mouth. Doubt we will see anything like that again here.

If it were up to you we would get Grant Hill as our star player.

Wouldn't be suprised if Morey's primary objective here is screwing the Knicks rather than getting Melo to Houston.

Remember when the Rockets were reported to have been interested in Caron Butler and Brandon Haywood last year? Cuban got them and it was later reported by Feigan that they had no interest in these guys but were happy enough to be involved in rumors. One effect of that was that, by getting Butler, the Mavs were out of the running for Kevin Martin, which benefited the Rockets.

The situation is not exactly parallel, but it would not suprise me to hear that Morey isn't gung ho about getting Melo but is happy to be involved in rumors for some secondary purpose like driving up the market for Melo so that the Knicks can no longer afford him (or would no longer want him when the price got too high).

Amare took less money without any guarantees. The days of "star players will never leave x amount of money on the table" are gone. To say that Carmelo only cares about money, when there has been no evidence to suggest it, is silly to me in wake of how the NBA has reshaped itself this past off-season.

No, Carmelo couldn't arrive in New York on the same flight as CP3. But do you really think the haven't discussed it? They were toasting to it on Melo's wedding night! Do you think CP3 signs an extension because he gets to play with Trevor Ariza to finish out his career? Me neither.

Melo can and will dictate where he's traded to. No team is going to trade for him if he makes it apparent he's not signing an extension. He has the leverage, and the longer the Nuggets wait, the worse the offers will get. I expect the Nuggets GM to meet with him, him to demand out, and the trade offers to start flowing shortly thereafter. They won't wait until the deadline because they won't get as good of offers for him.
