Now that the Nuggets have a new GM is it time for the Rockets to pounce?

"This just in: The Denver Nuggets send forward Carmello Anthony to Houston in exchange for New York's 2011 first round pick, Aaron Brooks, Shane Battier, and a bag of chips."

And we keep Chase, both our 2012 picks, and both our young power forwards?

    I'm in!

Oh yeah... Throw in that guy who came over in the new York trade... Hill and maybe Jeffries both...

    It's for melo to decide.

I've got one question. If the rockets make a the trade for mellow can he sign an extension with us after he's been traded or will we have to wait to re-sign him after the season

Tmac signed his extension on arrival. It was a "extend and trade" deal

I'm pretty sure it was a gentlemens agreement type of thing with McGrady's extension. I don't recall the deal being extended at the same time of the trade. But, sometimes I'm wrong about these things. A lot had happened since 2004, I could easily have forgotten.

TMac definitely signed during the season. Houston made the trade after receiving assurance from McGrady that he'd sign a new deal with them.

So who is this Ujiri guy that was supposedly named GM, a puppet for Kroenke (whatever his name is). What's his background, I've never heard of the guy.

Nice moniker and post by the way ^ wyo-ming. :)

If it costs kevin martin you do it...it actually might be better for the team to move kevin than lee because of lees upside contract and defense...

I think Lee/Melo is >>>> than Martin/Battier and Lee/Melo is close to Martin/Melo cause of liability issues and health concerns..

    What do you guys think?

Specially if we could do a seperate trade to get JR SMITH with the TE...they could do like a 3 team trade (if TE isnt enough for JR)...

Denver is going to be in a shambles for a while really, not only is their GM more a rubber stamp guy, but the "hands in the pie" owners have to sell them within a few years to satisfy NFL rules.

So by your logic Lee=Martin... Step back for a second and put down the bottle... I would gladly replace Martin with Lee, but in the trade we make to get Melo.

I don't think Martin will be included in the trade if it happens at all.

No i clarified my statement that OFF/DEF pros and cons of Martin/Melo vs Lee/Melo would prob be about even. Martin is a horible defender and melo is a below avg defender...as much good as they would do on offensesively...they would give up much defensively ...Plus martin would not be called on nearly as much for offense with melo there. Would be used more a spot up shooter.

Lee can do that just fine as we saw with the magic and through out his collegiate career. I would love to keep melo/lee/matrin but if one of lee and martin has to go. It MIGHT be more advantageous to send martin his much larger contract and health risk and keep lee and hope his offensive upside catches up to martin. By no means did I see Lee was a better or as good of a player. Merely that on this team with melo... it might be a wash.

There's no way Morey's going to trade Martin (an unknown quantity by all accounts in terms of how he hasn't played a FULL season with the Rockets AND Yao) even if it is for Carmelo. In fact, swapping Martin for Melo improves our team but it doesn't vault us into a Top 3 team IMO. I don't think Morey's traded any player that hasn't had less than 1 full season as a Rocket before and I don't think that will happen anytime soon.

I can see where you're coming from in having Lee start if Martin gets traded for Melo and having him play the Bruce Bowen / Raja Bell role but, lets be honest, the current Rockets lineup isn't the same defensively-abled team it was a couple of years back. Battier's older, Deke's gone, Yao's coming back from injury, etc.

I think if they keep Martin and send Brooks to Denver, it won't cripple us defensively.

    Lowry
    Martin
    Melo
    Scola
    Yao

Rebounding, on the other hand, is where I think the Rockets will have (or continue to have) trouble with.

I'd prefer iguodala and Martin over losing Martin to gain melo. In any potential big three scenario we need Martin to be our version of ray Allen. Doesn't need to hog the ball and shoots over 40% from three

Ya I see what your saying..I was just thinking that if ur only option is giving up martin to get melo you do it...and it wouldnt be as bad as u might think...lee did well as the starter for the magic.... he has offensive upside he can play.

If u can keep martin then ya im all for it.
