I would love if we could swing that trade. With scola, battier, yao, and now brad miller getting older i feel like we should go all in for a championship these next couple years

Why this conception of Billups being a throw-in is floating around the board is beyond me.

    Look,

If the Rockets trade Battier, Jefferies, AB, Hill, and the Knicks picks --> Melo (just for the sake of argument)

    that gives Denver:

    Billups/Brooks
    Afflalo/Smith
    Battier/Jefferies
    Al Harrington/Kenyon Martin/Hill
    Nene/Andersen

That is not a team that is rebuilding- in fact, i'd argue it kind of resembles what the Rockets have on their roster right now (pre any melo trade). I think it is safe to say people have been taking Rockets at least a couple rounds deep in the playoffs on this forum pre-season.

So, what makes you think Billups is going to be simply tossed in because they are "rebuilding"

my guess would be that Billups ain't sticking around if Melo leaves. Might as well get something for him.

I don't get why Carmelo would want to go to either New York or New Jersey if he was deadset on winning. The Knicks hardly have a future and they'll be a fringe playoff team at best with their roster. It'd be the Nuggets all over again. And the Nets would have to gut their team of either Lopez, Favors, Harris, or a combination of the three in order to satisfy Denver's requests. Orlando would be trading overpriced contracts to Denver, which wouldn't go with the whole rebuilding stage if Denver loses Carmelo.

IMO, Houston is the most logical option if Carmelo wants to win and if Denver wants to rebuild. We have New York's picks, expiring contracts that can be shipped out at the deadline, and young prospects such as Budinger and Hill that I'm sure Denver would love a few years down the road. If Carmelo joins Houston, and we manage to keep Brooks or Martin, we'd be nigh unstoppable on offense and would have a big '5', not a big '3'. And our bench would be full of young and old, offense and defense.

    Brooks/Lowry
    Martin/Lee
    Anthony/Budinger
    Scola/Patterson
    Yao/Miller

But alas, it seems like Carmelo only cares about attention. So New Jersey may be his new home soon.

    But I still believe...

Not sure though, Billups is from Denver and at his age he may just consider it a win to play in his hometown and retire there.

He strikes me as a loyal guy any way.

Denver could actually still have a good team that competes and have future prospects if they do a deal with us. Heck Martin or Brooks would instantly be a great get for them. Brooks could replace Billups or they could start Billups at guard and Aaron at point. They stil have

    Nene/Andersen
    Kenyon Martin/Hill/Jeffries
    Battier/Al Harrington/Jeffries
    Billups/JR Smith/Affalo
    Brooks/Lawson

    Picks

With Martin they have a gaurd who scores and a backup who scores.

    Nene/Andersen
    Kenyon Martin/Hill
    Al Harrington/Jeffries(or Battier)
    Martin/JR SMith/Affalo
    Billups/Lawson

    With pick or picks.

They look like a playoff team still or real good team that just traded places with our huge assets added to them in a couple of picks and one player in Brooks who scores 20 to replace Mellow or Martin to replace Melow. They actually look pretty good to me. Both teams win out. We lose some depth, youth, and possibly a high pick or two and gain Carmello and they get all that back. We gain Carmello Anthony and a chance at a Finals run possibly. Two teams never benifited so greatly and equally from each other I think? I cant think of a better trade situation. Unless they really like Eddie CURRY and Danilo Galinari that much? All these trades match up and work. They would be a playoff team still and we would be too. In both scenarios on paper it looks like.

What you think you know? That the Nets are at all interested.

What you fail to realize? Nene and Carmelo's combined salary is close to $30M. The entire Nets roster is $54M.

Using the "facts" you claim to know, there is no way Carmelo is going to sign with NJ to play with the remaining 4 minimum salary guys left on the roster.

What I think? You don't know.

    What are your sources?

You can't just throw that out and expect people to buy it...

It isn't the sources I don't buy. It's the complete lack of financial feasibility.

What's obviously on melo's mind is that while this year's class were looking at losing maybe a few mill a year (5 - 95 or 6 -125, even if the new cba is 15ish, that's 6 - 110, or even with their reduced salaries its still 6 -100ish), for melo he would geniunely be looking at 3 for 65 with extension or 3 for 45 without, that's a massive difference.

If I were the Nuggets GM, I'd to take that deal in a nanosecond assuming I'm certain Melo won't resign. You are correct. That is likely the best deal Denver can get and one that Melo will sign off on, assuming they like Favors enough.

But I don't see it from the Nets perspective, apart from their owner wanting to splash for the sake of splashing. Adding Melo to that team makes them a borderline playoff team. And they'll have no chance to get better from there. No more capspace in the forseeable future. No more high lottery picks. No extra young talent to develop.

Basically, it's 3 straight years of getting knocked out of the first round by Orlando or Miami for NJ.

Just looked up the Roster and Salaries. You are right.

I think whoever he heard that from failed to do his research before stating his opinion...

I think if the trade go down....it will have to be Martin. It doesn't make sense for Nuggets to get Brooks since they have Billups and Brooks contract just don't add up enough.

So our lineup will probably be:

    Brooks
    LEE
    Melo
    Scola
    Yao

    or

    Brooks
    Melo
    Battier
    Scola
    Yao

I like to have Battier in there to play D. And i think Melo can play the 2.
