I think, if a deal were to happen, that Denver would want us to take back Birdman (since he has 4 years left on his deal). Do any of you think that's worth the lion's share of the trade exception? Consider that Hill would most likely go in the deal. Then we'd have a big rotation of Yao, Miller, Scola, Andersen, Hayes. I'm drooling at the thought of 3 7-footers a la . . .

If you get Melo, you can probably start accomodating him rather than Yao. I woudn't worry about fit too much.

I haven't been checking threads for a couple of reasons, but a friend at work just told me what is being "rumored". So I read through the posts rather quickly.

Sorry. I can't buy into this right now. I still think there is a good chance the "mix" we currently have can be a solid contender. I have said, and repeat: "See how what you've got now tastes before changing the recipe." We have a lot of good players, none of which will "demand" the ball. That type of roster is better suited to Adelman's offensive schemes than a "star" roster. All that is needed are players who can put the ball in the hole when they have the opportunity. Adelman's system doesn't depend as much on a double teamed player to now pass to an open man to create that opportunity. Star rosters are more geared toward that end. Player and ball movement is more effective at causing defensive errors which, in theory, should make for a more efficient exploitation. I also think it is more effective against zone defenses.

Wait. Adjustments can still be made if the current roster doesn't work well.

My close reliable source says 'Nets'
Dont get me wrong, Im excited this is in the news,
but perhaps he is playing the Rockets, Knicks, and Nuggets to get one of the richest owners in Basketball (Nets) to step their game up.

In other news, maybe China can help sway him???

Agreed, but there are a lot more cases where it did not work out, and in every case you mentioned, with the current exception of Lebron, they were not going to a team to lead it, or be the best player.

Melo would change EVERYTHING about the way the Rockets play on offense and defense.

You would have to adjust the entire game plan, and personel, IMO.

Not sure how Nets can step up. Do you mean up Melo's salary? Are they not offering max? Do you mean players traded to Denver? Why would he want to further deplete a 12 win team he is joining?

Lol you guys should check the NYK RealGM forum. They are pretty much trashing our team.

Also lol, Houston was a much better team than the Knicks last season, and the only reason they missed the playoffs because of Yao's injury. If the Rockets played in the East they would have made the playoffs without Yao.

Are the Knicks that good of a team right now? With Amar'e and Felton? I think they are a 6th seed at best, but if one thing goes wrong (injury) that team will miss the playoffs. They definitely aren't better than the Hawks, Bulls, Celtics, Heat, or Magic...and still won't be when they trade their depth and role players for Melo. It'll just be Melo and A.I. over again.

Maybe Melo realizes that and would prefer to play for a more complete team?

What do you mean by "step their game up"?? As in, he wants to the Nets to offer up Lopez AND Favors or something?? Why would he want his future team to gut themselves to acquire him? If you mean in terms of salary, I think it's a foregone conclusion that he's going to sign a hefty extension with whichever team he goes to, so I don't really that as being a contributing factor to his decision. I'm thinking that this could be legit.....ESPECIALLY since Carmelo has PLAYED with talented teams, and just hasn't reached the promised land (unlike a certain dinosaur-looking mother****er). He knows what it takes to win, and I think he believes that the Rockets have what it takes.

@TommyDeeTKB is asking for theoretical Rockets trades... Apparently all we have to offer is crap and doesn't come close to Gallinari...

According to him and his tweet feedback.

Gallinari walks with a limp due to his back issues, I would be surprised he lasts 10 years in the league as a quality contributor for a team.

The majority of New York never liked Houston anyway. Fortunately, not everyone in New York is biased towards Houston like that.

Ridiculous, but I am curious about how good Gallinari is. I haven't seen that much of him, but based on what I've seen, I'd rather have Budinger straight up (even without taking account of all the other assets the Rockets have.)

Bottomline is I don't see Denver trading Melo to New York for the garbage they have even if that means playing hardball with Melo. I mean we have enough assets (better than NY) to acquire Melo in a trade which he does NOT sign the extension and I would still do it (Battier, Jeffries and Hill). I think this provides a little leverage for Denver and could be beneficial for us.

We own the 2011 pick and it will be worth quite a bit if New York cannot land Melo. I am satisfied with holding our position and not giving to much to Denver, because I doubt that they take that NY package.

Chase is a much better prospect than Gallo. Simply because Chase can do everything Gallo does (excluding play PF...but that's more because of D'antoni)

Chase can shoot, Chase can Finish, Chase is more athletic, and Chase doesn't have back problems.
