The OP said it hadn't been done and would never be done...I've never heard of anyone winning a billion dollars playing the lottery.

Thats defenitely a rare thing, I we cannot rely on Yao to be our only superstar considering he cant stay healthy for a full 82 game season. We need another superstar to have a chance.

How can the Rockets afford Carmelo, Chris Paul, Yao, Scola, and Martin all on the same team? That starting 5 would put us in luxury tax territory all by themselves.

Detroit wasn't a fluke. If it weren't for "Big Shot" Rob in game 7 of the 2005 NBA Finals, the Pistons would have won back-to-back championships (against the 2 best teams of the 2000s).

If the owner wants to win he'll find a way.

Martin wouldn't be on the team

Yao, unless he has a great year, will take a pay cut.

Miami found a way, I'm sure Morey/Les will find a way

But you said it's never been done and never will be done. You were wrong.

Who was the superstar on the Seattle team that won in the late 70s?

Personally, I am not sold on Melo as a good fit, and a winner.

I do not question his talent, though I do question his efficiency.

The issue I have is one of "How he fits" with the way the Rockets play the game.

Clearly he fits in a "Give Melo the ball" type of way, but will he move off the ball? Will he pass the ball to a more open teamate (so far he bulls his way in, a lot), and will he play defense.

When making the trade, you have to consider how he fits with everyone else on the team, right now, the team is built for movement, screens, cuts, backdoors, passing, layups, and wide open 3pters and midrange shots.

It is a completely different system than the one that Tmac played in when he first got here, and it will be an adjustment for Yao too.

So, if Morey decides to go for Melo, who does he trade? What happens to the rest of the players like Martin who would be wasted playing with Melo....there is only one ball.

There are a lot of guys whose games would not quite fit with Melo, so to me, they are not a championship team simply by adding Melo, they would have to make a few more moves to get players that fit in with his style...and I am not sure it is worth going through that.

I think the real question here is "why did you need a new thread for this?"

You know who else is an underachiever and was talented...
Tmac. I'm just saying, getting Carmelo seems like we will go through another situation like with McGrady.

    1. People don't like/are afraid of change.

    2. People overrate their own players.

Just like Chicago who hesitated in trading Luol Deng and Ben Gordon a few years back for Kobe: they wanted to see if their home grown players who worked so hard to get better would continue developing. How did that turn out?

Hoopshype does not have the most accurate salary information.

Shamsports.com and ESPN's Trade Machine typically have more accurate information.

I looked around the web and his salary numbers are different at almost every source...basketball-reference.com lists his 2010 salary as 5.5, while ESPN has it at 6.1.

i'm not sure what to believe at this point, but i'll concede that there's a high probability that we can't get him with the TE.

i don't want JR Smith, he's a black hole. Hopefully his contract is more than the TE

well, he's not a good fit as a bball player, but taking his contract could be an incentive for denver to deal us melo.
