The HOU over NYK talk comes from the fact that the Knicks have little to offer right now and therefore would have to wait. Don't get played. Over 3 hours ago

There may need to be a conditional second rounder coming back to Houston for the "Jeffries side" of the deal, but that can be nominal (i.e., a 2017 second rounder, top-55 protected, and if the 2017 second rounder is in the top 55 picks, the obligation is extinguished). The Rockets actually are owed this "obligation" from Memphis for next year's draft; but we're not holding our breath that we'll ever see that pick.

On the Telfair side, the Rockets could just send the 2011 second rounder as part of "that side" of the deal.

On the trade exception front, under the cap teams don't get trade exceptions, since the cap room itself is used to absorb the incoming player.

    Let's see...

One source last week talking about how Carmelo chose NY,NJ, or Hou as a possible destination

    +

Yao flies to Denver for only a couple of days

    +

    Signing a 3rd PG

    +

Last night announcement that NY isn't really a front runner like everyone is saying and that he's excited about the possibility about Houston..

    Outcome

NOTHING!!!! Sorry I've been pretty beat up badly during the Summer Free Agency Bonanza... I don't want to get my hopes up too high...

(Tested911 thinking deep down inside "Please GOD let this come true")

rimrocker, I totally agree. This has been on my mind quite a bit. One of my worries about Melo coming to the Rockets is I hope he fits into the way this team is wired. Yes he is the star, but we need those vets to lead with their professionalism. I want the team concept to remain intact. I'm hoping if this happens Melo understands the team is > individual parts.

Scola stays I dont think the team inked him to a nice deal just to trade him (unless its for an obvious upgrade to the PF spot) and pretty sure that they cannot trade him until a certain date since they just signed up but I am not sure if the dec 15 date still holds true for FA signings as well as players who were traded.

would hate to see both battier and hayes go but I would believe if they went hayes would probably be bought out and resign here. Battier would carry far more value to the Nuggets they could trade him to another playoff team for picks and a player they like

I realize that... it was easier writing it the way I did and I just wanted to include him as one of the three + Yao that I think give the team the vibe it has.

Why all the haters on a possible Melo deal?

So it seems like alot of you wouldn't be up for trading for Melo (if it cost us AB or KM). But the thing is that we will NOT win a championship without a premier player. Never been done, never will be done. Yao, even if healthy, still needs another superstar.

Now I have never been a Melo fan, but you can't deny his talent.

I know that trading for Melo would be a risk, but we have to think about what matters: championships. While I could see how someone could say that trading for 'Melo would potentially decrease our total win total (he's a slacker, etc), there is No Doubt in my mind that the addition of Carmelo Anthony would GREATLY boost our chances at a title.
It could also certainly set up a trade or free agent signing of Chris Paul. Brooks and others for CP3, KM and others for Carmelo, while keeping Yao and Scola.

Sure Melo may be an underachiever but the fact is that he is one of the most talented, if not THE most talented player in the league. In the right direciton, he could lead us to a title, and that is what it's all about.

    Let's take a chance.

There are hardly any "haters", and was it really necessary to create ANOTHER Melo thread?

Actually Detroit did it without any premier players.

I'm not Bima, but I can tell you it would be considered one "extended" trade. (It's a distant cousin of the "player to be named later" trades that happen in MLB).

My understanding is the league office reviews trades from the prospective of each individual team involved. In the case of Bima's proposed trade, it works for both the Rockets and Wolves.

He's a very good scorer, a good offensive rebounder. He runs out in transition hard (though he also tends to leak out early). His commitment in other areas is iffy.

And is he a leader, or a malcontent?

I don't think many are flat out against trading for Carmelo. Some of us aren't enthusiastic about it, but I think having a player with his skills does increase our chances of contending. I also think people who are expecting his impact to be approaching LeBron's or Wade's, or even McGrady's in his prime, will be disappointed.
