You know the Knicks are definitely kicking themselves over the draft picks right about now. It's so ironic that they carelessly gave away Jeffries and their first round picks to get LeBron, Wade, Bosh and it falls flat on their face.

Now Carmelo is willing to be traded and they need those picks but Houston already has it. LOL

It's like the Knicks are helping us out with this, "Houston, you need help landing a star? here's a couple of first picks to help lighten the load."

But we shouldn't get excited... YET. This is just another huge step that the Rockets have taken to get closer to getting Anthony. Let's face it, Carmelo loves his wife and kids. Most likely, he will make a decision based on what his family wants, not what he wants, and I think that's where we might be in trouble.

A new contender for the douche bagerry title:

    http://nyblogofmind.wordpress.com/2...ke-real-carmelo-suitors-knicks-nets-clippers/

He really doesn’t think much about Daryl Morey. But, what do you expect from a butthurt Knicks “writer”?

He already direct messaged me on Twitter this morning telling me I'm a "lousy joke of a writer" because of my articles on Melo and Houston possibility.

Must be tough being a Knicks fan right now. They seem to think since they lost out on LBJ that they're entitled to Melo. Quite hilarious. Read it, you'll probably get a laugh or three out of it.

    That's good to know.

Leave it to Morey to use the smaller (i.e. Anderdsen's) trade Exemption instead. And, of course, leave it to BSPN to not be the sharpest tools in the shed and/or misrepresent/misremember (LOL) the assets of the best team/GM in all of the NBA.

I think if it gets done, it gets done soon. If you're about to become the Nuggs GM, would you want your first action to be trading away the Franchise's star player for less than full value? No. You make them do the deal before you take the job so that you have a fresh start with players and fans.

Melo has to be traded. The options are not overwhelming and don't take a lot of analysis. Do the deal and start rebuilding with your new players, draft picks, and GM.

The way I see it...we need to make this deal happen not only to be a legitimate contender, but also because if Melo goes to NY, the picks we got from the Knicks pretty much go to waste. I honestly think Daryl is gonna make it happen just like he planned. It seems like all the bait we have needs to be used ASAP (expiring trade exceptions and possibility of knicks actually making the playoffs). There is no better time than now, and Melo is the best option we have.

I don't see the Nuggets wants PF or PG! I see Martin, Battier and Chase Budinger to be our trade bait to get Melo to Htown! I can smell Morey has something cooking on his hands! I'll take it with a heartbeat!!

Also, I think you need to keep 2 of Battier, Hayes, and Scola. 2 plus Yao helps maintain the team's identity and leadership.

I think the likelihood that trade exceptions get used at all is fairly small.

Better to have a larger trade exception, as it allows you to take on additional salary. In this case, any salary between $2,600,001 and $3,100,000 (I believe trades--even those involving trade exceptions--can still be made if the resulting salary difference is $100,000 or less).

To lay out an example that I have used in the past, let's say that the Rockets either (a) cannot land a star player despite their best efforts or (b) manage to make a move but Jared Jeffries is still on the roster, I could see the Rockets making the following trade in order to reduce/eliminate their luxury tax burden:

Minnesota receives: Jared Jeffries, a pick (preferably the 2011 2nd rounder) and cash
Houston receives: Sebastian Telfair ($2.7M expiring contract)

The trade could be constructed as being two separate deals: one involving a trade of Jeffries to Minnesota into the Wolves's ample cap room (which would also generate a new $6.88M trade exception for the Rockets), and one involving a trade of Sebastian Telfair into the Ariza trade exception, reducing it by $2.7M.

But given this new information, the Rockets can instead absorb Telfair's salary using the $3M Landry trade exception, resulting in the Rockets coming away potentially sporting TWO trade exceptions in excess of $6M, the Ariza trade exception and the Jeffries trade exception.

THAT, my friend, is called good management.

I would think the Nuggs would much prefer to have a GM do the deal then risk getting screwed., and I would not hire a GM who is afraid to do the deal, unwilling to take responsiblity for the job right off the bat.

I personally would want to take the job before the deal gets done. It's really a pretty sweet gig, getting to build a team practically from scratch. It would be more difficult to try and work with players you didn't want to begin with? If Morey had his way, would he have wanted Yao and/or Tmac?

Bima, in regardless to the rule that a team has to get something back in a trade, would that not apply here? IIRC, in trading Andersen to the Raptors, we had to receive an 2nd round pick. In your example, would the Wolves have to send us a pick for receiving Jeffries, and we would have to send them a pick? Or does it work that the Wolves would see this as one trade (they don't need to see it as two) and thus the need for both sides to receive something is satisfied in that regard.

Also, would the Wolves receive a TE for the difference between Jeffries and Telfair's salaries? Can you receive a TE if you're under the cap?

I'd say throw all of our assets at Denver as to not include Brooks or Martin. Something like:

    Jeffries
    Budinger
    Hill
    Patterson
    Harris + Johnson
    2011 HOU 1strdpick w/ swap
    2012 NYK 1strdpick
    2013 HOU 1strdpick
    Rights to Sergio Llull
$6 million in cash to buyout Jeffries

    for

    Carmelo Anthony
    Chris Anderson (w/ TE)

That's something like 5 lottery picks + taking on a bad contract. Yet we still end up with a surefire contender.

    Brooks/Lowry
    Martin/Lee
    Melo/Battier
    Scola/Hayes/Anderson
    Yao/Miller/Anderson

Weird how it's almost a completely defensive bench. Lowry/Lee/Battier/Hayes/Anderson would be interesting...

This would be awesome. Make it happen Morey. It will be even sweeter if Denver releases Battier and we can sign him back.
