That's a nice lineup and all but the Rockets still need a backup 3 regardless. Lee is just too small to be playing SF. You have to remember its an 82 game season plus the playoffs. The Rockets will need another SF to back up Melo. Having an 8 man rotation is nice but in order to go deep into the playoffs, the Rockets need to have a deep roster. It doesn't matter how talented our team is, some one will get hurt.

Martin and Lee are both good players but are too small to play the 3 spot. Trading away Battier and Bud leave us short at the 3 spot. So Morey will go out there and get us a back up 3. There is no way he would rely on Lee or Martin to play at the 3 spot.

I think it is the RealGM knicks forum. It is pretty comical. Some are saying that Woj's sources are rocket's players themselves.

Indeed, DD. I tend to favor Woj over most any other writer. He's pretty credible.

    Honestly.
If Brooks and Martin go for Chauncey and Melo
I would even go for that . . .I like Chauncey's abilities in the playoffs
I would hate to lose both . . but that would mean we in WIN NOW MODE
championship within the next 2 years

Agree. We aren't trying to outbid everyone - just teams where Melo will sign an extention with. Does this beat the NYK's offer? Based on the rumor - yes. Nets? We can't beat what they have to offer if the rumors are true. If Melo wants to go to the Nets and they are willing to unload Favors + others, I'm not sure the NYKs or the Rockets can beat that.

I think if Denver can't resign him, they will want to rebuild under the new regime and that is a nice rebuild package. I might throw in a 2013 Rocket pick though to give them 3 1st round picks to go with that group.

Still would like to know the origin of "the source".

It's funny that Knicks fans think they are in the best position.

If Melo tells the Nuggets that here are the teams I would like for you to consider trading me to and that I'd sign an extension with, the Nuggets are going to to those teams and say... Best offer now please. The leverage would all be even at this point for the teams on the list.

Next phase would obviously be what those offers are and how Denver receives them. That's what is going to separate the likely Melo destination with the rest of the offers.

The Knicks would say, well we want to keep Gallinari so please wait until December 15 so we can give you Randolph along with Curry and our 2014 first round pick. Chandler would be the additional last piece if forced to add him.

What is Denver going to do with that offer? Accept it? Doubtful.

Then Morey comes in with Hill, Budinger, the two Knicks picks, and Battier/Jeffries or Martin. And oh yeah, he can also take a nasty contract off of their hands with the Trade Exception.

What do you think the Nuggets will take in an attempt to sell their fans their reasoning for the trade?

As long as Melo is saying Houston and means it, this trade looks possible. If his list is only one team and it's the blue and orange one in NYC, then we need to move on. But his interest is genuine.

I agree on all these points. I agree Melo is a beast and one of the best, if not THE best, scorers out there. He's on a completely different level than Yao, no questions asked.

Put simply, you look for the easiest shot possible every time you're on offence. Since Yao is a center and unguardable once you give him the ball in the post, (which I agree, is easier said than done) you have to exploit that, even if you have Jordan, Bird, and Iverson in their primes on the outside. The post is ALWAYS the better option, especially if you have the best offensive big men in the game.

I'm pretty sure you realize this and I'm just preaching to the choir.

I think JR Smiths salary is over the amount of the TPE and therefore we cannot do this $6.322 vs. $6.757 million (his salary). Can anyone else confirm this.

Couldent we offer the ariza trade exception instead of battier. Pair that up with jefferies, hill, bud, and the 2 first round picks

Line Up would be a perfect balance.

    Yao/Miller
    Scola/Hayes/Patterson
    ANthony/Battier
    Martin/Lee
    Brooks/Lowry

You have an explosive starting lineup and a defensive bench

Man this actually makes a lot of sense. Plus Iggy doesn't get injured as often as Martin

No, you cannot combine Trade Exceptions with Players.

If we made a second trade within that trade, say for Birdman, then yes. Birdman for the Exception only.

The Rockets acquired Lee with the Landry exception and then through the $ numbers got to trade Ariza without taking anything back which created the exception.

Those GSW players can be traded in combination with any of the other Knicks' players. Remember, they were acquired via trade, not free agency. Since the waiting period is only two months for players acquired via trade to be traded in combination with other players (and if the Knicks would still be under the cap, there is no waiting period), and since the David Lee sign-and-trade deal happened on or about July 8, then those GSW could be traded with no problem by early September (a couple of weeks away) at the latest.

But, still, the Knicks' offer would probably suck compared to the Rockets'.

Already did. You are correct. See my earlier post on the previous page.

No, you cannot combine a trade exception with player salaries for salary matching purposes.

Why does everyone assume Brooks is such a big trading piece? Obviously being a Houston fan we are more biased but other boards/organization do not see him in that kind of light...

And Goat what a hell of a trade.... Throw Houston 2010 1st round pick to Denver and Houston 2011 1st round pick to Philly then it might happen :)

Problem is you have to many players going to Denver.. .There are only 15 spots on the team right?

No it doesn't. No way Phili does that trade because if they dump Iggy, they're doing it to dump salary. They aren't looking to take back salary (see: Martin). Maybe if they could somehow dump Brand too they would. MAYBE.

Yes only 15 spots on a team. Nuggets have 13 players now and sending away 4, but taking back 6. This would put them right at 15
