At this point, I am more interested in Billups than Melo.

Keep Yao, Martin, Scola and Brooks and dump everything you have left for Iggy/Billups.

You got six strong that can go toe to toe with anyone in the league.

I don't see either one of Brooks or Billups willing to take the backseat. Iggy sounds nice though.

Melo doesn't have a wife. She has a husband.

Until he finds some little Puerto Rican mami on the side when he moves to New York. Then he will have a wife and a mistress. ;)

We're fine at the guard position. I don't know if Billups is worth his price tag, even if just for this year. Lowry + Brooks are a good combination of scoring and defense. Also, winning teams in the west aren't that deep at PG, we'd need to retain length. It wouldn't make sense to move a big for Billups if you want to compete with LA this year.

AI would be a definite value addition, agree 100%. He scores, defends, and runs the floor as well as being self-motivated playing on a non-playoff team for years.

We are "fine" at every position but trading spare pieces for upgrades here and there is the only way we get better overall. Depth is nice, but isnt as effective in the playoffs as it is in the regular season.

Sending out Lowry, Chase, Lee, Hill, PP, Battier, Jeffries and the two picks for Iggy/Billups makes us potent in the playoffs.

    Billups / Brooks
    Martin / Taylor
    Iggy / Harris
    Scola / Hayes
    Yao / Miller

It does MAYBE throw us into true contention, but it also sets you up for one hell of a rebuilding period.

Perhaps you could offer specific reasoning rather than blanket statements.

It's not that it "sucks ass" at all. That's a team that could potentially compete for a championship, and would almost definitely make its way deep in the Playoffs. The problem with the scenario is that we'd need a clutch late game performer, and that team, as composed, wouldn't be a sure-fire contender.

His reasoning was the trade sucks and its nothing Morey would do.. Cause unlike that trade proposal he is not stupid.

    Thats how I interpreted it

Its a great lineup. Just bad in the value in terms of age and losing all your youth.

Everything given up in this hypothetical (save Battier) was obtained by Morey in the past three years and I believe it puts us in contention for atleast another 3 years. Isn't it feasable to believe he can replicate the asset generation before we are too old to be competitive?

I ask, what is the alternative? Wait for CP3 to be available and get passed on again? Then what? We are too good to win the lottery, not good enough to win a ring.

Billups is old, true, but Iggy isnt. Even if Yao and Billups retire next year (unlikely), you still have Brooks / Martin and Iggy in thier primes, which is a pretty solid core.

At some point, you have to take a chance. Gathering value guys is great and all, but even if we snag another Budinger or Lee caliber player, it starts to have diminishing returns, because there just isnt enough minutes to go around.

All true, and I agree we have a choice to make, but I don't feel "blindly" trading away all our gathered assets and young talent on an over the hump(debatable, I know) PG, plus an overpaid SF is the right way to go about this. Billups, in my opinion, isn't enough of an upgrade to justify jettisoning our bench from among the league's best to middle of the pack. Also, if Billups and Yao were to retire at the end of the year, we'd still be in an even worse position, as we'd be a middle of the pack team. Not bad enough to get in the lottery, but not anywhere near good enough for contention.

Having said all that, I'd love to make a run at Iggy if the price is right,as I agree that we have a small window of opportunity until we have to blow it all up and rebuild anyway. To be honest, if we make a big trade, and still come up short I'd like to blow it all up this summer, and start over.

I Feel we just dont have the young allstar potential talent to be traded to denver, AB is good but they have Billups and Lawson. Chase,Patterson, and Hill arnt exactly mind-blowing talents, and our Picks will likely be a early 20s pick, and Knicks with Amare isnt going to miss playoffs i presume, so its not exactly a great package. If denver denied Favors, I dont think how we can do any better.

The trades you would theoretically do would take away all of our youth and leave us with just Iggy, Brooks and Taylor in 3 years' time. Also PF would be a glaring hole, when your backup PF is just Chuck Hayes you've got major depth issues.

Why is there such a huge need to get Chauncy Billups? He's like 35 and making 10M a year. Also why would we relegate Brooks to a backup Pg spot when there's a high chance he will make Scola money when he becomes a FA? With this trade you'd have your top 6 guys making around 10M each and taking all of your capspace...and that's assuming we got yao for 10M.

Just get Iggy for C-bud+Hill and a pick. That will give us that mid-tier star we need to get us over the hump. No need to waste resources on Billups who's due to decline any year now.

Instead of Billups, who might cost more, I would make a call to the Wizards to see if Kirk Hinrich is available. With Wall and Arenas, I don't see much PT for him there.

Trade Battier and someone like Hill for him and use Brooks in a possible Iggy deal.
