because neither are actually interested in Houston?

Denver doesn't want him to stay in the conference.

Denver doesn't want him immediately contending for a title while they languish and rebuild.

Carmelo doesn't give a rat's @## about Houston, or 75% of the cities in the NBA. He wants to be in NY. Maybe LA, maybe Chi. That's it. Just like Bosh wasn't going to touch Cleveland, despite them being a contender.

Winning is a second thought for this crop of stars. Being rich media celebrities in the biggest market is the driver.

Houston was only brought in to ramp up the bidding and put pressure on NY to make a deal that Denver would accept.

If Denver is really looking for a big salary dump, I would think they would want to dump Harrington, their FA signing. Harrington makes zero sense in Denver if they aren't going to compete for the playoffs next season.

A Nene/Melo combo is very tempting but I still wouldn't give up both of NY's picks for that deal. I'd give them one pick, our expirings, non-guaranteeds, and Hill/Budinger/Taylor.

An NBA source said that Carmelo Anthony's arrival for media day in Denver on Monday would mean that the proposed trade to send him to New Jersey is dead.

The Nuggets are reportedly shopping Anthony to alternative suitors like Philadelphia for Andre Iguodala and Golden State for Stephen Curry. It is not clear whether Anthony would agree to sign a contract extension with either team. But it is possible that the Sixers would be willing to make a move for Anthony without an extension, in order to shed the long-term contract of Iguodala.

STEIN_LINE_HQ Source with knowledge of DEN-GSW discussions regarding possible Melo deal describe them to ESPN.com as "brief talks going nowhere."

All Denver is doing is a little spin conrtrol.......now they can show up at media day and say "we have talked to ny, chic, nj, hou, phil, g state, both LA teams in our ongoing effort to satisfy Melos demands and make our team better.....blah blah blah..."

They have to save some face when he either:

    1) walks out for next to nothing next summer

    or

    2) they get railroaded into trading him to NY and start rebuilding

Well, according to JR Smith's twitter feed with picture as "proof"... Melo has arrived at camp in Denver.

Melo doesn't want to get fined nor does he want to deal with the drama he would face if he didn't show up to media/camp. It would only be smart on his behalf if he shows up.

This is what I think DM is working on.....

We do this because Melo besides the talent, fills a need we have at the SF without giving other starting players

Denver does this because they get Iggy that besides his talent, can play the SG starting role and Young, a guy that I like a lot, a very versatile player, can play the SF position. These 2 can change roles and positions, because they do a lot of things, they are young, so denver would like this package. Also, Denver decreases the payroll, important financially

Philly, this is more difficult, because if you see this trade from an impartial prespective, you would say that Philly loses big time, I think this trade can be explained by team needs, more then "pure talent"....

Philly gains a Cheap PF, that can in the future play the starting role if he proves his talented, if not, it is only one year, so financially this is not bad for them. (this goes against the poster that posted a trade with the Nets, were they would land favors (big time talent) and Murphy (big time expiring contract) the problem is they have Brand, so they would have 30 MILLION just on 3 PFs this year, so.....)

They gain a SF, a experienced one, that can be the vocal leader of the team, because if you see the possible starting five, you see, Hawes(22), Speights(23), Turner(21), Holiday (19), so a experienced SF is needed, and Battier fits like a glove (yes, for me Elton Brand is not a starter)

Jeffries is only a expiring, wish is important but nothing special

If they wanted a young SF we can add Budinger in this trade, it works financially, the problem is Houston would lack SFs to backup Melo...

And it doesn´t show but we would send also the NYK draft picks (draft pick and swap) to Philly

This trade has another MEH, the fact that Philly gets over the Luxury tax, not by much, but with the expirings they have, it would be easy to decrease payroll, but it can be a problem...

This idea from me that DM is trying this comes from the involvement of Philly, there is NO WAY that Philly trades Iggy for Melo (one year rental), just because the don´t want Iggys contract, NO WAY

There are teams out there that would give a lot for Iggy, so this idea of, "Philly wants to dump Iggy´s contract, for a one year rental" doesn´t make sense to me

I know, nothing as been said about Houston, in a wile, I am not saying this is going to happen, just what I THINK DM has in his mind, without trying to be a smart ass

I mean, your not gonna get anything better than that.

You replace Hawes with Patterson and Hill. You get back a G-F in Afflalo, who is a pretty decent defender, to replace Iggy. You also get Doug Collins man crush in Battier, who happens to be a expiring contract.
