You could argue Brooks is already a top point guard in this league who can outplay Rose and some other top point guards on any given night.

When he signs and extension, the CBA's salary rules makes him extremely diffcult to trade.

Depending how much the Chicago offer is, it would probably be preferable for Denver to take the BYC requirements than a higher expected salary if he didn't sign it.

@alanhahn: Source tells @newsday #nyknicks aren't "being as aggressive as they should" in their pursuit for Carmelo: http://bit.ly/a8uZzs #NBA

@alanhahn: A second source admits trade talks w/ DEN for Melo is "a moot point", but Knicks have not tried to engage a third team to make it work.

I have a funny feeling that all these rumors about NJ and NY are coming from Denver because they are trying to squeeze both Knicks picks out of Morey and Morey isn't budging on giving them just one of the picks.

The 2012 pick has tremendous value. IF there is a season long lockout after this season, before the owners and players resolve their dispute, then the 2012 pick order could be based on the 2011 season records and a fresh lottery draw or perhaps not even a change in the order of picks. Or.........perhaps the whole 2011 season is lost and there is

Noah has little synergy with this team, Chicago have a defensively weakish power forward whose probably the most physical offensive PF in the game.

This team needs a low post threat out of the C, that teams needs an athletic defensive rebounder...which is exactly what Noah is.

Would the lockout happen before or after the 2011 draft?

Everyone knows Carmelo insists to leave. Denver wants to raise his value but seems no team want to give more. It's like Denver will be robbed finally. I hope Rocket be the final winner, if not, steal something please.

well...yes if the beginning of camp was a deadline but unfortunately its not...unless they have self imposed it on themselves which is possible

i would think that they want to get this thing squared away and get whatever new guys into camp as soon as possible so they can move on

At the end of the day, Melo would likely sign the extension here, with the extra money, plus the no state sales tax.

And then the royalties for 10 million Rockets colour Jordan Melo M6's that sell in China this year.

WOW..SCOLA??? I would not have thought that would be something that Denver would be interested in. My only reservation would be who plays PF? Hill, Patterson or even Hayes?

Martin did not say that. That is speculation on the part of the writer. Scola cannot be traded until Dec 15. Don't see that as being realistic.

The problem I see with the Rockets offer is Denver wants a 'marketable' young player. You're not going to put Chase Budinger on a billboard by himself to sell tickets to your fans. Derek Favors on the other hand..

Without Martin in the deal, I would have to think that the main pieces of the package would include:

    Jordan Hill
    Chase Budinger
    Rockets 2011 1st Swap Pick
    Knicks 2012 1st

From there you would have to make salaries match by adding Jeffries and Battier. That still doesn't qualify as a package with a 'marketable' player, but it is TWO young guys and TWO first round picks.

If he's willing to re-sign with New Jersey, then we can't beat their offer. Though it would be interesting for him to want to re-sign with the team who almost had the worst record of all-time.. I guess we'll see if winning comes first?
