I am always weary of giving college coaches large guaranteed deals like this. Not all coaches are fit to manage adult men with families who are millionaires with large egos. I think Donovan played in the league though, thats huge. But Orlando invested way too much. Donovan has always had insane recruits, it doesnt work like that in the NBA. His most impressive feat was at Marshall IMO.

time will tell if it's a stupid move, but it's certainly a lot of money to throw at a college coach.

i'd easily rather have either van gundy brother though i'd bet jvg had zero interest, not sure about the other.

This kind of reminds me when Spurrier left Florida for the Redskins ($5 mil for 5 yrs? At the time it was a heft price tag). I sincerely hope Donovan has more success at the pro level.

I really can't believe this. I know the money is huge, but he has a frickin dynasty at UF, and he is getting paid good there too. If he was going to the NBA, I would have thought he would have gone to a more prominent team, not the frickin Magic.

He's got some nice pieces in ORL. Howard is a monster, Nelson is a nice PG, Grant Hill a solid vet, I bet their sorry they made the McGrady deal, if they still had him, they would be a force.

Not that stupid actually. The Magic have been fighting for years to get the people to flip the bill for a new arena. We have basically been saying "for what" a perennial loser with no future and a rehashed coaches? This move is absolutely brilliant in that it gets them a young up and comer, who is adored by Floridians and will exponentially increase their odds of actually getting the new arena they are looking for. Gator fans are DIE hard here in this state, and the Magic just increased their fanbase ten fold.

    Its a brilliant move.
