I am absolutely certain Landry would be in demand. I just believe RA and DM the GM view him in 'classical' 6th man role. I suspect the aspired for big would be a 4/5; what Andersen has not been.
Weird, if theres one thing I thought we had a lot of it was power forwards. Not sure why Morey is trying for another. Maybe he has a grand plan that doesnt include Scola or Landry?
if we had to give up either brooks or landry to get a bosh, i would rather trade landry. scola may be older but i think with his style of play, he has a lot of games left. with bosh/scola/yao/hayes/anderson, we'd be stacked in the front court.
Landry is too small and can't really guard anyone, the players that we are supposedly targeting are athletic players that have huge wingspans or not undersized.
Methinks Morey is aiming for a young big man as a fallback in case we miss out on Bosh, OR as part of a trade sweetener that lands Bosh. If Morey winds up with: Scola Landry Jordan Hill? Whomever? Hayes Dorsey Then he can afford to flush two of them in the deal that lands Bosh. Maybe? Because Bosh is clearly the prized young athletic big to run with Yao.
Rockets can use a longer PF who can also play some C. A line up with a long C in Yao and a longer good PF would be difficult to stop (see the Lakers with their long men). Also, given Yao's long injury history, the Rockets can use someone who can fill in at C doing the typical C things like lane patrolling. Chuck has been good defensively despite his size, but the team has generally struggled without a long shot blocker in the middle. In the long run, longer is obviously better.
Yes, it is funny. Funny that Big Z would say he came back playing 20 mins per game: <object width="388" height="394" classid="clsid27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" id="ep"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="movie" value="http://i.cdn.turner.com/nba/nba/.element/swf/1.1/cvp/nba_embed_container.swf?context=nba&videoId=teams/rockets/2009/12/10/YaoandZ512Kmov-1150054" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#000000" /><embed src="http://i.cdn.turner.com/nba/nba/.element/swf/1.1/cvp/nba_embed_container.swf?context=nba&videoId=teams/rockets/2009/12/10/YaoandZ512Kmov-1150054" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" bgcolor="#000000" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width="388" wmode="transparent" height="394"></embed></object> Big Z had his last foot surgery in February 2001. In the following season he averaged 21.2 MPG.
Very good point. Even if a deal for a young big goes down now, we may have to wait until the off-season to find out Morey's ultimate reason for the trade.
I've been of this opinion for the last 2 years. It will be very hard to get someone like that. A younger Camby wouldn't have been ideal, but I could live with it,provided if Chuck didn't have to be moved.
I was thinking the same thing, and I would say that Philly would be his #1 target, because they have both Young and Speights. Perhaps something along the lines of: Houston receives - Igoudala, Dalembert, Speights Philadelphia receives - McGrady, Cook, First round pick Houston receives - Bosh Toronto receives - Speights, Scola, Battier I'm not even sure you could turn Speights around that fast, or if you'd want to given his potential to grow behind Yao. However, if possible, Philly does the first trade b/c they go into complete rebuild mode around Young, Holliday, Williams, and Brand. Toronto does the second trade b/c they get a guy in Speights who can play the Center position, which allows them to move Bargnani to PF. They also get Scola who would automatically be one of the best 6th men in the league. Battier is included to make the money work. They can either move him to another team, or keep him and allow him to mentor DeRozan and Bellineli (sp). Houston can roll out with the following lineup. C - Dalembert/Hayes/Andersen PF - Bosh/Landry SF - Ariza/Budinger SG - Igoudala/FA PG - Brooks/Lowry
with carl and scola, morey is still not comfortable? i'm thinking they're not expecting yao to play more than 23-25 minutes a game next year and planning long term already, which is good.
