Okay I'm definitely a fan of this deal. Can someone explain why Jefferies is so horrible to receive? I understand he'll get just under $7 million next year and that he's not a good player at all. But is it really that bad? He'll be an expiring contract next year and we can just flip him for a 2nd rounder or something and to get Hill and Knicks draft picks seems well worth it for me.

Hold on a sec. Let's don't put the guy in the rotation just yet.

Or maybe flip Al or Hughes for Brad Miller.

I love the idea. You get young talent, and you don't hurt yourself long-term, and you are essentially giving up nothing.

Some of those picks can also be pawned off during this 2010 draft to help them move up.

Why would we not? The main piece is Hill. If we don't play Hill, then we just gave McGrady away for nothing (until 2011.)

Hasn't Scola been playing out of position all season? I think he's doing the best he can with how this team is setup without Yao.

Not sure that gets it done, but we now have plenty of trade chips imo. Everyone is freaking out about Jeffries, he's not that bad, Imo he is Hayes with more size and a little more offense. He works very hard on defense. Yes he eats up some capspace, but it's either for only one year or we trade him.

I love this trade, how can you not be happy with two first round picks and a lottery selection in Hill? Not directed at you durv.

Whoa, I had originally kind of glossed over the draft picks (I'm at work and trying to get SOMETHING done today). Looking at that, I change my tune. This is pretty good, all things considered. We're still bad short-term, but this is a long-term move.

    Okay.

That's what i'm excited about...Scola and Battier can also be moved!

Scola because if we bring in Harrington/Hill we will have too many bigs.

Wow, if this happens, good job again Morey.

Al is an upgrade to David Anderson in every aspect of the game...

He can also play the 3 sometimes with 2 Bigs and Chase or Trev. He is actually a fairly decent defender as far as the Knicks go, when he was in Indiana he was a legit stopper...(Than came Don Nelson ball)...

I think people don't understand the true genius here. Its that Jared Jeffries really ISN'T that bad. He's a servicable defender and decent on the offensive end. He shoots 31% from 3 which is better than a certain Houston Rocket SG. Think about what Channing Frye did after he left NY, I believe Jeffries could become a much better player here than he ever was at NY.

Plus the rockets potentially having their own lottery pick in this year's draft

    Hot damn!!!

I have stated on several occasions over the past few months that, because McGrady wouldn't really open up that much cap room for the Rockets this summer, agreeing to take on Jared Jeffries's contract from the Knicks might be able to net the Rockets some fairly significant assets from New York.

But I did not expect THIS much.

Frankly, I think that the Knicks will end up striking out big time in free agency this summer. I think they're destined to be a lottery team for the next couple of years. This means that the Rockets are basically getting THREE freakin' lottery picks?!?!?!

Jordan Hill (#8 overall in 2009)
Right to swap 2011 picks (this'll probably be in the #8 to #12 range IMHO)
2012 pick (again, this might be a lottery pick as well)

A lot may depend on the protection that Donnie Walsh can negotiation over those picks. I'm sure that Morey wants no protection.

Bottom line: If this story is true, while the Rockets may not be world-beaters next season (they'll be a playoff team, though), they will have set themselves up BEAUTIFULLY in the long-term.
