We can get two very good young players in this trade, that is what Morey is looking for. I do not think that we can get better offers than that. All reports from sources are just trying to mislead people, let Knicks take the deal, I guess.

If we traded for say Harrington today, could be turn around and trade him Thursday or are there some sort of restrictions?

That seals it, Morey almost has to make a second move if this trade goes down as stated. None of the players in the rumored deal would make a big impact this year or next year. This would be a good long term trade, but Morey has said he is thinking about next year as well and definitely wants to add a significant piece.

He could be flipped right away with the only restriction being that no other player be included in the trade.

He could still have next year in mind - he would have added another expiring contract (Jeffries), Hill, and NY's 2012 1st rounder to the collection of Brooks, Landry, and Budinger. That could potentially set the Rockets up to be a player in a SnT in free agency, or look to make another move before the deadline next year.

I bet one of these "multiple offers" is going to be what gets done, not the NYK deal.

def means that Brian cook would be going too

hughes is terrible but he alone could be flipped to another team to get someone to contribute this year since Hughes is expiring.

it made no sense to give up harrington who has been playing for the knicks

Instead of Hughes I would like to take back Cat and Harrington. That allows us to flip them for players and Cat's contract is covered by insurance.

I doubt they want Thomas because the bulls will push them to take on a contract or give them a pick.

Harrington or Hughes..doesn't matter for me. We're not going anywhere this year so all Harrington will do is help us win = lower draft pick.

Yeah, the off-season is a possibility. I'd be willing to bet that Morey prefers to do it now though, at least ideally.

Keep in mind we're getting back Hughes' expiring in this trade. Now remember that letting it expire has no value to us because we'll be at the cap after re-signing Scola and Lowry. However, Hughes' expiring has value to other teams.

I'm betting Morey doesn't want to just leave value on the table like that. He'd prefer to flip it and make his move now. Also, we have too many power forwards, so we need to move one of them. Scola expires too, so he would be another good candidate to get something out of him now instead of just letting his contract expire.

Mentally the guy is HORRIBLE...if he had his mind right he'd be a great role player on any team...but man i've lost a lot of respect for this guy AS A PLAYER over the years.

You're forgetting about the Rockets ability to re-sign Scola and Lowry. Trading Hughes for ANOTHER salary to be on our books in 2011 will push us further toward the luxury tax and make it hard for us to use the MLE AND re-sign Scola/Lowry. Hughes expiring contract IS valuable to us, because it helps us be able to re-sign Scola/Lowry AND use the MLE without worrying about the luxury tax.
