Harrington is a career 0.448 shooter, 0.353 long ball, and rebounds at 5.8 average.

You are right, Harrington is the trash, and the Hill and Jeffries are the real thing.

I don't think making the playoff is the highest priority. The point is if the Knicks can make a run (say 18-13) with Tmac who is still recovering from micro-fracture surgery, the other superstars may believe that the Knicks would be the playoff contender if they joined the team.

Harrington is a ball-stopper chucker a la Artest, except worse. Our offense isn't going to be self-less anymore.

I would estimate McGrady to add negative wins to the Knicks. He's gimpy and quite possibly in his last NBA season no matter what he thinks at the moment. Harrington, alone, is better than McGrady at this point. Anybody that can shuffle laterally at a normal level is better than him.

This potential deal is all about next season and beyond for the Knicks. I think they fully understand that McGrady is washed up. If they did actually say they will look at him to see if he's worth keeping around beyond this season, they only said it to give keep fans interested in this season and to pretend they aren't completely giving up (even though they are). They won't resign him. All they want is his expiring contract.

Your math is off, the Knicks only have $27.34 mil in salaries commited for next year. Subtracting Jared Jeffries $6.88 mil leaves them with $20.46 mil. Even if the cap goes down to $53 mil, they will have lots at 32.5 mil. And could possibly buy out Curry freeing more $s. Still they won't have enough for 2 max deals without renouncing the rights to everyone else on the squad, because they still count on the cap. They could afford 1 max and one 5-7 mil player, and to resign TMac, and David Lee, and still have the midlevel exception maybe.

    1. Knicks get out of Jeffries contract; cap space is free and they can test drive McGrady without conflicts between him and Harrington about touches.

    2. Philly gets a lot in this deal: young talent (a lotto pick and 3 solid second-rounders) and cap flexibility (Harrington's contract, plus getting out of the Iggy and Sammy deals)

    3. Houston gets Jeffries, who makes Battier and / or Scola expendable and can be a solid bench SF or PF, Iggy (a starting wing who can avg ~18-20ppg, is a great one-on-one defender, and has great asst. numbers [which complements Brooks' shoot-first mentality), and a backup for Yao that can play a lot of minutes when need be, is a shot changer, and is having a great year rebounding-wise.

Houston can even keep the demand up for future draft picks from both teams, or just NY; quantity would prob change though. This trade would be even better if it was coupled with the signing of Von Wafer!

A self-less offense who put a record low 66 points against a Heat team who had lost 5 games in a row. With all due respect, we could have used Harrington in that game. He is obviously not my choice for a trade, but Harrington is hardly the garbage in this particular trade.

if cleveland gets amare then ny can kiss their lebron chances goodbye. i can see bosh or joe johnson maybe going there, but at the same time i could see all the big names just staying put. they can get the most money by staying with their current teams, correct?

Curry may have trade value in next summer to get something like Brand or Arenas.

I guarantee you that if Harrington is in the deal, he won't be a Rocket next year. And it won't be because he is so wonderful that the Rockets can't afford keep him around.

Jeffries won't kill a team offense with his selfish chucking, and he won't play matador defense. Hill will average more than 3/10ths of a block shots over the course of his career if you manage to give him 30 minutes per game. Every McGrady character flaw that should be obvious to anybody who has watched the Rockets for the past several years exists to an exponentially larger degree in Harrington. Lack of toughness, settling for jumpers instead of working for a good shot, acting selfish, etc. I'm sure Knicks somewhere are laughing at the idea of Houston giving them "great player" Tracy McGrady, after looking at his career stats. The stats only tell the story if you are putting together a roster for a fantasy team.

If you don't mind being a perpetual 7th or 8th seed/lottery team, he's a great player to have around. He can score some points, as long as you don't need to actually win. If you ask me though, I'd rather watch a team that will wins, instead of a team with some guys who can score a bunch of points. but maybe that's just me. If you want, maybe we could go back to the Steve Francis/Moochie offense of ISO, dribble, dribble, dribble, chuck. Wouldn't that be exciting?

Yes, they can sign one more season in current team.
I think j.johnson will stay at hawks and hawks would like to pay him.
But all people know bosh want to leave and wade's case will look at the result of heat this season.
If heat cannot join playoff, i think wade will choose to change a team.

    Negative ?
Highly doubt that he is still respected on the court and is an above average player on that team.

As for his last NBA season ? We could be saying the same thing about Yao Ming next season. We shouldn't be judging players before they have shown what they can do when healthy.

I think he well play surprisingly well if he goes to the Knicks.

And I can't wait until we play in NY later this season.

If Mcgrady goes to the Knicks and somehow is reliving his younger days this board is going to implode

by the way this would be a great trade. i would have an entire 2 seasons of score board watching and hoping that NY knicks lose every single game.

    every last one of them.

I appreciate your assessment. This is what makes Clutch the best bb board.

You seem to have a very low opinion of Harrington. Nowhere did I say he is great or anything approaching that, but he could be valuable to us, especially when the Rockets are going through their 3rd/4th droughts.

Indeed, I would say that of all the players that are potentially coming to us, Harrington is the one to have guaranteed minutes.
