Only way rockets win this deal is if knicks suck after 2010, which would turn those draft picks into lottery picks.

Which is highly unlikely with all the cap they will have to bring in talent and being able to go over the cap to resign T-mac along with whoever they bring in.

morey has proven he's pretty darn good with late first round picks. sure the knicks sucking would make this deal great, but it will still be good if they don't b/c morey and his team are great at scouting.

again, this is a move for the future.

Yeah, I can say with some confidence that you ARE, in fact, in the minority.

Other than the fact that Jeffries is just a better all-around player than Curry (who does nothing but try to score in the low block - he doesn't rebound, he doesn't pass, he doesn't defend), taking back Curry would likely foreclose any chance of the Rockets being able to use their MLE in free agency this summer, if not endanger their ability to retain both Scola and Lowry.

Frankly, I'd rather have Jeffries AND the full MLE than Curry's fat ass.

Hell, I'd rather have Jeffries over Curry, even if the money were even.

Besides that, didn't Curry jack off on his limo driver last year? That guy is a freak.

There is no way we lose this deal as is, it doesn't matter what happens with the Knicks. Even if they do well, Morey has shown what he can do with even late first round picks.

But the real gem is that we don't give up any rotation players, and we actually have MORE flexibility this summer with Jeffries contract. Not to mention we get under the luxury tax.

Anyone who thinks this is a bad deal is either obsessed with Mcgrady, or they simply haven't been paying attention to what our options are if we keep Mcgrady's contract.

Is this the traditional "leeb waayy overvalues youth and athleticism" post? Because wanting to take Curry is well, a unique idea all right.

Freakiness aside, there is a reason why Jeffries has been a fixture in the Knicks' starting lineup all season, while a "healthy" Curry can't get off the bench.

If Jeffries was making, say, the same salary as Chuck Hayes is currently making (~$2.1M), I don't think D'Antoni would let Donnie Walsh trade him.

It's purely a financial decision necessitated by the sheer size of Jeffries's contract.

I think some people still think T-mac is the same player he was before Ron got here. If we can get that huge grab bag of talent and prospects its an absolute rape from a talent standpoint. Sure New York gets financial relief from the huge expiring but if the superstar max players decide to not sign with their teams then you can expect those teams to try and sign and trade instead of losing them for nothing. The way the Rockets are stockpiling talent is much smarter then stockpiling expirings. Our team will still look desirable to free agents this way and we will still be a winning team(hopefully).

I totally agree with you on that, plus hell maybe Jeffries can actually contribute where Curry would just be Brian Cook 2.0.

Sounds like a rebuilding plan. After next season, Yao, Battier, Jeffrie's contracts' are all up, Rockets will have a lot cap room and maybe a lot draft picks.

Why do people believe this? I did this quickly so I may be wrong, but if the cap goes down to 53 million, their cap space for next season will be about 22-23 million. There's no way they are signing LeBron and somebody else with that, plus they wouldn't have enough money to field a whole team. And if they can't bring in another allstar, why would LeBron leave a proven winner in the cavs to sign with a constantly bad knicks team?

I think "constantly bad Knicks team" is not correct. Donnie Walsh and D'antoni haven't been there that long. Walsh took a very bad total salary situation and turned it into having about $30 million in cap space in very few years. Also, I think D'antoni has a pretty good rep as a coach.

Just because they had a long suckiness streak, doesn't mean they are still going to suck.

    Enough already

1.It's New York City the marketing capitol city of the world.

2.Lots of players love soaking up the glory and getting all the media attention and New York is just that.

    3. They play in the East so making it into the playoffs isn't hard...for god sakes they have a chance at doing that this year without any super-star caliber player.

    4. Simply giving them one super-star makes them playoff bound for sure.

So if we do this trade there is almost no doubt in my mind we never see a lottery draft pick from the picks they will give us.

The thing with max players is that you can't pay more than their home team.
Unless you are overpaying for 2nd tier stars. Don't expect LeBron and Wade to take a paycut.

Who were the big winners in 2009 free agency? Are they still in the lottery? :)

Yeah, the picks are just about the only thing worthy in this trade. The players we are getting are pretty much trash, except for Harrington, if he is indeed coming to us.
