Let me stress: regardless of the buzz, there is a good chance this McGrady stuff goes right up to 2:59 on Thurs or doesn't get done at all.

Cook got some PT tonight, so he must not be part of this deal. They wouldn't risk this whole deal failing apart if Cook came down with plantar fasciitis or something serious like that.

Doubt that. Yao isnt done, but he doesnt have much longer.
    I see 2years at 20+ppg.
He does get hurt alot, but without Yao we wont have a chance in the playoffs.

2 years of 20PPG+ Might be a bit optimistic.

And we still have a decent shot at making the playoffs this year even without Yao.

I prefer Jeffries over Battier he's 6"11 and much more athletic than Shane and plays very tough D... Shane is not worth 7.3 mln??? Wow, an aging SF with no offensive game whatsover. Come on let's give Shane a coaching gig and have him become the D coordinator.

I wonder if we could then get in on a three-way with the Wiz and Cavs:

    Cavs get Jamison and Andersen
    Wix get Ariza and Scola
Rox get Hixon (1 year remaining) and Big Z (expiring)

    Brooks/Lowry
    Hughes/Budinger/Taylor
    Battier/Jeffries
    Landry/Hayes/Hixon
    Big Z/Hill

As a bonus, we get out from Ariza's contract (for a shorter one in Jeffries) and two expirings in Hughes and Big Z.

One good side product of this deal though is that Tmac ends up in NY. That team as it currently stands is gift-wrapping a top 10 lottery pick to the Jazz. Tmac going there and playing with Lee, Gali and Nate Rob could end with them making the playoffs.

I sure with Morey would work something out with the bulls.
Other than that, let Tmac ride off the books and then find a player in the summer

something that most of us here in clutch fans don't see is that for a past scoring leader with multiple injured we are getting replacement talent till next year and two draft picks "did i forget that are young talent " without injured players

maybe we add larry hughes and he would help us in the rotation
that is the oldest player we might get

8th pick this year and two future draft

that is really a respectable trade to admire

Making the playoffs at 8th seed with our roster doesnt mean we are contenders.
Yao pushes us into contention with the right line up. Without Yao, we are not going even into second round

Thanks, but I think you left off Jordan Hill, who makes $2.7 million next year. That would leave us with around $17 million under the tax line, which may compromise our MLE spending or perhaps the ability to sign Hayes.

I agree that a trade this summer/early next season would be likely. The front court would be overloaded.

Ideally, I think the Rockets are missing an all-star type scorer at the wing, but they aren't easy to find. That's why, for so long, I held out hope that McGrady could get healthy and his relationship would the team could be repaired. But obviously that ship has sailed.

Of all the star players who seem potentially attainable, Bosh is the guy I'd like us to go after. There will be a lot of teams bidding for him (and the Knicks might have the best shot of getting him). It may be a long shot, but maybe Toronto/Bosh can be convinced to do a sign and trade with us.

Some additional thoughts on various implications from this proposed trade:

--worzel, the Knicks most likely CANNOT offer two full max contracts this summer. By my calculations (using the salaries from shamsports.com), the Knicks will have a minimum total team salary this summer of about $24.24M. Even with a cap figure of about $53-54M, the Knicks are looking at about $28-29M in maximum cap room (assuming that the Knicks renounce their rights to everyone, including T-Mac, David Lee and Nate Robinson). I can also tell you EXACTLY how much Lebron, Wade and Bosh will be getting, at a minimum. The figure is $16,568,907.60. That is 105% of their 2009-10 salaries. Their salary slot could be even higher depending on how high the salary cap is set. The Knicks will fall a full $4-5M short of two max salaries. Hence, the best they can realistically hope for is one max guy and re-signing David Lee. Say bye-bye to McGrady next year, Knicks fans!

--What many people here fail to realize is that the most important reason for the Knicks to dump Jeffries's salary is so that they even have the OPTION to keep David Lee. As it currently stands (pre-trade), if another team offered David Lee a deal with a large enough starting salary early in the free agency period, such that the Knicks would be left with less than the max salary in remaining cap room if they wanted to match that offer (Lee's an unrestricted free agent, so it's not even the Knicks' choice here), it is likely that Donnie Walsh wouldn't be able to retain Lee. Then, if/when the Knicks strike out with Lebron/Wade/Bosh, the Knicks would be left with literally NOTHING. Maybe they re-sign McGrady. With this trade, Donnie should be able to easily retain Lee AND get one max free agent. I honestly think the whole deal with signing two max guys is just bluster for their fans.

--It will be very interesting if the Rockets get Al Harrington in this trade, since he would be a prime candidate to be flipped to the Bulls. Chicago has expressed interest in Harrington, who they see as a perfect fit in their offense. They have offered Tyrus Thomas plus filler for him. I actually wouldn't mind flipping Harrington to Chicago in a three-team deal, with Thomas going to a third team like Portland or Minnesota (both of whom are interested). Getting Rudy Fernandez in return is probably a pipe dream (THERE would be your starting SG, guys!), but perhaps you could get Travis Outlaw's expiring contract and some additional picks (Portland's offered two second rounders) or maybe a guy like Ryan Gomes (if other moves were made to clear up the frontcourt situation). If nothing else, Les can reduce his salary commitments with additional trades. Harrington is a more appealing asset than Hughes for this purpose.

I see that, however, we dont have to trade Tmac at all. I still think that Morey could do better letting 23mill ride off the books and then explore FA in summer.

I hate it when deals are reported before they actually happen. Now I'm going to be paranoid all day at school tomorrow.
