The Knicks easily have the cap space to sign a max contract as they are. The reason why they've been trying to dump Jeffries is to make room for two max players.

We're going to see how serious that some Team USA members had about hooking up on the same NBA team.

How valuable are those picks going to be with LeBron/Wade/JJ-Bosh/Boozer/Amare or even LeBron-Wade?

I have a feeling that Morey has viewed Jeffries as an asset from the very beginning (but fool the Knicks that he is a liability). Though his contract sucks this season which is halfway gone, it will be expired by the end of next season, and Morey always views an expiring contract as an asset. In terms of on-court performance, he is actually the type of players Rockets have collected in the past few years; his real value (taking charges, combination of quickness and length, ability to guard multiple positions, team player) is never shown on the stat sheet. Even if he cannot trade his expiring contract next season, Morey can resign him at a much cheaper price as he is underrated by most teams (same situation as Hayes). Also, his contract can help Rockets doing any sign & trade deal; we need to match salaries if we wanna trade for a super star.

They'll only have enough to sign one player at the Full Max.

They already showed interest in re signing McGrady. They also have to decide whether they want to resign David Lee, or let him go and use that money on a different player. I don't see them being able to sign both, plus a Wade and Lebron.

Im not quite sure why you are anti this deal.

At worst we get two late first rounders and a high second, in addition to Hill. We take back Jeffries, but we have more assets to move in any potential SNT in the offseason. There is zero risk here.

I just hope this goes through soon - before Cleveland comes out with a blockbuster trade that will keep Lebron happy. Also it might give us enough time to get 1 more trade in.

Moving Jeffries gives them over $32M if the cap is set at $53M. I think the cap will be higher than the projected figure, it generally has been.

A max contract for those players is under $17M.

Expiring contracts are worthless in free agency. As we've seen in recent years they're even hard to move near the trade deadline under normal circumstances. Teams don't want to pay for that deadweight salary for the full season.

Jordan Hill's game reminds me of Mikki Moore. Tall, skinny forward who can hit the mid range shot with good athletic ability. I just don't see this guy panning out

Perhaps, but in this economy, a player with a PER below 9.50 for 3 years running, and a $6.9MM salary is not an asset. (Sounds like another "Mr. Intagible".) Hopefully we can trade Jeffries + Battier for one much better player...

I think the Knicks' future picks are overrated. If they pull of a Lebron or Wade signing, then we are talking very late first rounders.

Haven't seen anything that makes me think Hill is a player.

If McGrady plays well then we are really getting the bad end of this.

Um, it's exactly because of this economy that expiring contracts like his are an asset. That's why Tracy McGrady - a guy that has played all of 46 (largely unsuccessful) minutes this season, is coming off microfracture surgery and could bolt in two months - is on the verge of being dealt for potentially three lottery picks.

Can we at least get Wilson Chandler? C'mon this trade isn't looking good at all!

I think Morey's willing to bet that those guys won't take a sizable paycut to go to a team with very little help around them.

with the pieces NY currently has ONLY a wade or Lebron would make it late first rounders...
it is a gamble worth taking for a historically bad franchise who will more than likely over pay for a marginal all-star once the big 4 fall off the board...

Overrated compared to...nothing? Do you not comprehend that multiple draft picks = future trade bait?

On top of that, have you seen what Morey has done with late 1st round and 2nd round picks.
