If Mr. Low-Risk really get Jefferies, I dont think he will waive Jeff.
Getting one year contract is his interest and he will trade him at next season if Jeff cannot help much.

No way, that really hinders over flexibilty in the biggest FA bananza to ever hit the NBA. 7mil for garbage and some picks. PLZzzz.

I agree getting the picks is worth picking up his contract for next year. He can also be trade bait next year as an expiring contract.

And the Rockets were gonna be players in that FA sweepstakes weren't they? We'll see if you been paying attention or not. ;)

51 games into the season leaves only ~$2.5 million for the Rockets to pay this year, or less than $10 million total.

And that 7 million expiring will be useful next year, either at the trade deadline or as cap space when even more money than McGrady's this year will be coming off the books.

So NY's pick next year? After they land one or two of the top tier free agents?

    Are you kidding?

So, you'd rather lose all value for McGrady's expiring contract AND cut Scola and Lowry free FOR NOTHING, all for the outside shot of offering LeBron/Wade/Bosh a deal that is substantially less than what they'll be offered by their own teams/through sign and trades?

Do you realize that we never had any flexibility? Exactly who are you hoping to bring in? LeBron? If anything, it sets us up BETTER for FA, because we can use Jeffries expiring contract in a SnT along with our plethora of first round picks we'll have. We only had ~7million in cap space before and we still needed to re-sign Scola/Lowry. We would have only had the MLE to work with - and guess what: we'll still have the MLE to work with. It doesn't hinder us really at all.

as presently constructed this team isn't in the position to offer anyone a max deal...

also, there is a term known as "sign and trade" you should definitely look into it...

I think with YAO coming back and the core we have here, thats plenty of reason for a big name to come here and help us WIN. why not?

Great trade IMO, we get what we want; young prospects and cap relief.

I'm happy to get two of their 1st rounders! In no way do I believe they get Wade or LJ, which means we get top 5 pick...ok ok possibly a top 10 ;). On top of that we get hill, who admittely hasn't proven anything yet but I believe the rox organization can help him come along at a much faster pace.

On top of this we should be able to resign our players! Or you could package scola and a pick for some other deal. This just adds to our aresenal!!

I for one would take jeffries and the expiring contracts along with those picks! The best deal of young talent we will get without giving up some of our core players!!!

They will most likely not land the top free agents, they can not offer them as much money as the players current team can.

Sign and trade doesnt help us do nothing, we need flexibilty in THIS summer. Why have it in 2011, wen all the big names are signed to long term deals.

Morey + late first rounder = Brooks

It'll be more valuable than you'd initially think, I'd hope.

    $

You'd have to completely gut the core - nothing for McGrady coupled with renouncing Scola and Lowry - just to have an outside shot (depending on what the salary cap is) of offering a deal 15% less than what the big names can get from their own teams. If you really want a big name to come here, you want a good team as well as sign and trade assets. An expiring $7m deal (Jeffries) and future NYK first rounders are potentially very valuable parts to that.

The Rockets have a higher percentage chance of luring a big name star, this summer, after this trade than before it.

    WRONG!

Go read the responses above. In case your too lazy to do that or don't, the Rockets will not be in position to go after Wade, LeBron, Bosh, etc unless it's through S&T.
