when you look at it on paper, it reeks of another deal being imminent..
unless Hill is simply considered filler/asset. he would be playing behind 5 other bigs

Whoa!. kinda jumping the gun their son. First of all the trade is just a rumor. nothing has happened yet. They are still talking. And second of all, there is no WAY IN H*** we take on JAred JEfferies $7mil this year, $7 next year (player option). Morey is wayy to smart to do that. If anything i think we will let Mcslacky rott on the bench, and be among the prime PLayers in the 2010 FA. WOw. seriously, why do they let ANYone make threads.?!?!

^ its going to be hughes not harrington the rockets want to package cook in the deal to get under the tax

makes no sense for nyk to include harrington in the deal he is a better player for them

hughes is terrible i cant stand him but he is a two month rental at best and can provide some insurance if ariza or shane is out

Totally disagree, Jeffries is the reason we get the first rounders. It's for one year how is that so bad?

I agree with you Pete. My gut feeling is that we will likely involve a 3rd team and Scola will be included in any deal. Either that, or we let Scola walk or have him take part in a sign-in-trade.

Players have egos. Someone will feel the draw of the "biggest stage" and being the guy to turn the Knicks fortunes around and being a hero in the basketball mecca. I think if the money is close, the Knicks can sell someone on that narrative, especially if they coordinate with shoe companies and other endorsement deals.

I think its reasonable to assume that Nike will be whispering in LeBron's or D.Wade's or another one of their player's ears. From the endorsement perspective, New York is a clear win if you have a player's "brand" and you want to maximize it.

Agents, too, will probably feel the lure of taking their marquee talent and putting them on the big stage. See Scott Boras and Carlos Beltran. Agents aren't always thinking about clients first and obviously they have a big influence on the process.

If a player has their agent, and all their endorsers telling them how much bigger they will be if they position themselves correctly by taking a little bit less from the Knicks - how many players will be able to resist that?

The Hughes contract is worth about 3.5 mill more than Harrington's, so the Rockets get under the LT under either scenario.

    To expand on Bima's post...

Those first round picks will be HUGE!!!!!!! Teams are hurting bad right now, the best way for them to acquire players on the cheap is to draft them. These two picks will be huge trade chips that Morey can use for future trades. With the new CBA possibly adding a hard cap and some other monetary restrictions, having as many picks will be the way to go when trying to acquire cheap, decent talent.

Not only will these be first round picks, but they will be NYK's picks...which means they will probably be lottery picks, regardless of what people might think. Unless the Knicks can drastically reshape their team, I can't imagine them coming out of mediocrity anytime soon.

Finally, having picks in the first or second round isn't an issue for Morey. We saw what he was capable of doing in last year's draft without having any picks going in.

I would MUCH rather have Harrington! Harrington is averaging like 18 points a game and is a career 38 % three point shooter. Also, as D'Antoni and Walsh mentioned, they would give up anybody not named Chandler, Gallinari, or Lee if it were for someone like T-Mac. So I think Harrington is most likely the one I see us getting.

So paying him $7M next year isn't worth getting to swap 1st round picks in 2011 and NY's 1st round pick in 2012? I think it is.

To do the trade we would have to pay someone $7 mil this year. So to hold that as money that wouldn't otherwise be paid is not right.

The issue is the $7 million next year. Given the number of times the Rockets have dropped a couple million on teams straight up for their early second round picks, it doesn't seem too out of whack.
