Does this make us a big threat to get enough money to sign a max player in 2011?

Who are the list of free agent targets the Knicks will pursue this summer for a max contract?

    LeBron
    Wade
    Bosh
    Johnson
    Amare

Is that it? Any other really good players on the market?

no. the good thing about this trade is the potential picks we'll have + getting a young project in hill.

Yep, that's what I was trying to get at earlier. This deal might not be so great if the Knicks get good after free agency this summer. We would all be rooting for them to strike out several times and continue being terrible. The ideal, after this deal, would be for Bosh to stay in Toronto, Wade to stay in Miami, James to stay in Cleveland, and Johnson to stay in Atlanta. If that were to happen, the Knicks would be AWFUL with NO SUPERSTAR to sign. It would be GREAT.

    That's about it.

I also see the Knicks remaining loyal and spending a chunk of their capspace on resigning Lee to a near max contract.

So is it time for the Houston Rockets to get lucky?

depending on who is available i think the Knicks will overpay for one FA and use the rest of the money to sign Lee and McGrady

they wont have a terrible team but not a great team.

Now if they strike out and get no star and have to split that money for McGrady/Lee/3 tier star then the swap is good probably a low 10-15 pick

    6. Resigning David Lee

That's about it. Still, Lee would be the best player LeBron has played with and the Knicks will look different if they're forced to put in some effort on the defensive end (not sure how much D'Antoni can affect that). I, as a fan of the NBA, hope LeBron goes to NY. The league needs a new criminal to face off against Kobe and the Lakers.

paul pierce - he may leave depending on how the celts do in the playoffs but i doubt the knicks offer him max money
    zach randolph

are the only 2 other guys i can think of.

kobe is staying for sure, along with dirk. yao is picking up his option. landry is an unrestricted FA.

Amazingly, by taking Jeffries, the Rockets are in better shape to be FA players this summer than they were before. Between his $7 mil (ish) expiring deal for next year and the NYK future first rounders, the Rockets have the ideal complimentary pieces to one of Landry/Battier/Ariza to entice someone into a sign-and-trade deal.

Just fantastic value if it goes through. In an amusing twist, I'd say the Rockets - because of Yao, a strong reputation and sign-and-trade assets - are in better position to sign a FA star this summer than the Knicks, who through this deal will have next to nothing to excite teams in a S&T and would need a LeBron/Wade/Bosh to sign at a discount (and with a bad team, at that).

I believe Knicks will sign Felton and Amare which would have a starting lineup:
PG Felton SG McGrady SF Chandler PF David Lee C Amare

Seems like a playoff team so we're taking a risk on the 2011 and 2012 picks.
