puts us under the lux tax i believe by trading cook save les money which he can use to buy picks

and those first round picks can be straight gold its about future assets, if you think there wont be a lockout in 2011 you have got to be kidding yourself we can easily use those picks and get something in the summer in a sign and trade for one of these superstars that everyone covets.

this is a great move IMO and GREAT move its about doing whats best for the team long term since the short term (this season) isnt really going to amount to too much.

And at least in this trade none of the rotation guys (AB, Lowry, Scola, Landry, Battier, Ariza, chase) are being moved

I watched a few Knicks games this yr. Mike sometimes used Jeffries to defend the point guard of the other teams, so I think he should be able to defend pg, sg, sf, and pf. He not only takes charge on the defensive end, but also gives something that Rockets are currently lack of: LENGTH.

I was thinking the same thing. They could sign 2 max guys, make the playoffs and our pick we got from them is weaksauce.

If we include Cook, cant we have both Harrington and Hughes? If it came down to it, I rather have Harrington. Imagine Harrington in Adelman's system! Imma j*zz right now!

Yes. Doing this trade frees up nearly 9 million dollars next year for the Knicks.

So they would be able to sign 2 free agents to a max contract. But which two are going to play with the Knicks?

The Raptors are on a tear lately. LeBron might be paired with Amare or Jamison, pretty much showing that Cleveland really wants him to stay. I seriously doubt Joe Johnson will leave that young core in Atlanta to play in NY, plus he's not that dominant anyway.

The only guy I could see going to NY is Wade, and we know how injury prone he is.

So the 2 free agents are probably going to be Wade and Lee.

Well said, the rockets get more length and athletism at the size positions overnight if this deal goes down.

    I hope its Harrington.

Then you could trade Scola and Battier for Kevin Martin on Thursday.

Absolutely! Battier, Scola or Ariza could possibly be moved for a scoring 2 guard.

This is a Morey type trade Herro ;)

What if LeBron stays? What about the new CBA? they did the exact same thing when they traded for Francis and gave up picks.

You may not think it's sexy but This trade is Brilliant.

Also depends on whether or not we suck next year. If we do, then this could be a disaster if this "exchange" is unprotected. Would we have to give up the better pick? Or what if our records are about the same? This exchange crap would be worthless, and we may just as well not even included it in the trade to begin with.

I want Harrington, the option to exchange 1sts in '11, unconditional 1st in '12 and '10 and '11 2nds. We're taking abck Jeffries for Gods sake.....at least Tmac can still play...and he'll probably be good too.

I'm not worried about the draft pick situation as long as Morey is around. If they suck, great for us, it's a lotto pick. Turns out they turn it around, well Morey has found guys at the bottom of the first. Not too big of a worry for me.

    Damn. :(

It's always good to see the other side's perspective. Doesn't look as nice of a trade with the way you put it.

the knicks are willing to do this deal b/c if tmac excels, they can resign him for cheap (i'm sure walsh and tmac's agent is talking).

getting rid of jefferies (and potentially buying out curry) WILL give them money to sign ONE max player PLUS enough money (that means CLOSE TO MAX MONEY) to sign another player.

so technically we're not getting 3 lotto picks b/c i think they'll make the playoffs next year, even if they don't get bron/wade or whoever. they will have A TON of money and i'm sure walsh will spend it wisely to make the knicks a playoffs team.

but this is the best deal for tmac as it stands.

Trust me, the Knicks are going to sign someone big this offseason, NY is the marketing capitol of the world.

forgot about the potential lockout but i dont think there will be one.

what are we going to sign and trade with for one of those superstars?

knicks will sign a big free agent + tmac will contribute = crappy picks for us.
