The Bulls offer is unclear. A lot of guessing going on. Miller? Thomas? Salmons? Hinrich? Another unknown team throwing someone in? Pick? Though, it seems Thomas and Miller are probably locks for coming back. Question is, who or what else is?

I'm inclined to make the Chicago deal if they throw in a pick but hold the right to change my opinion. ;)

Thomas is getting garbage interest. The knicks want to trade him for Al Harrington (garbage) and the spurs want to trade him for (McDyess).

Miller is a rental that won't get us past the first round.

Salmons is NOT and expiring. He has a player option and he will use it.

unless the Bulls are giving us picks it is NOT the clear choice.

if we let t-macs contract expire, wouldn't it enable us to pick up a top free agent in the 2010 free agency? why don't we do that? just asking, I'm still new to this contract talk. :)

No. Couldn't be more wrong, and that's saying it nicely. :)

no. If we let HWSNBN expire we only have about $8 mil to spend on free agents and we need to resign Scola nd Lowry.

Short answer: to sign a top free agent the Rockets need to be way under the projected salary cap. McGrady's expiring deal will put us under the cap, but not far enough to get such a player (when you tack on the 12 million in "cap holds" for Scola and Lowry).

I think the Rockets are already in rebuilding mode, we just don't see it as much because of the way Morey is building the team. He's making the team as flexible as possible. Even though Yao is in the Rockets' plans for the future, I'm sure there's a contingency plan for if he gets injured again. Obviously he's not going to get another player that will have as much of offensive polish or defensive impact that Yao has, but he can get a good substitute. That's the sign of good management.

I 100% agree with you. I think that's what most fans here who complain about either of these trades don't get. Morey (and Adelman) have done such a good job making this team competitive despite not having any stars. I think it's easier for some fans to just see their team suck, so that they clearly understand they're in rebuilding mode.

I agree with you about this. There's no promise that we can use Thomas in a SnT deal over the summer. Not only that, what offers would Houston get with having his rights? Don't get me wrong, from what I read, there are a lot of teams wanting to trade for Thomas. But the offers the bulls are getting is trash. They want picks/assets for Thomas and most NBA teams aren't willing to pull that kind of deal.

Houston does not want to take on Salmon's deal. That's why the Bulls are trying to find a third team to get involved. That's one of the reasons why Houston hasn't made a deal yet. They are giving the Bulls and the Knicks time to get their offer correct.

Unless Chicago is including first rounders and ability to swap picks, we have to go with NY. Folks here that want the Chicago deal (without draft consideration) are shortsighted and just don't understand. Please go sit at the kiddy table while the adults talk this over.

Yep... Draft picks are key for the Rockets deal. Unless picks are involved, I can't see Houston taking the Bulls team without a third team.

BTW... I wonder if Morey has slept yet....

If Minny wants Tyrus Thomas so badly, I think a 3-team trade that sends Ricky Rubio's draft rights to Houston is reasonable.

    Hou Gets:

    Ricky Rubio Rights
    Salmons
    Brad Miller

    Chitown gets:

    McGrady

    Minny gets:

    Tyrus Thomas
and maybe a second rounder from chicago

I could go for that. If we got Ricky Rubio, do you think we could work a buyout with his team to get him over here ASAP?
