Oh good you can move Travis Outlaw into the lineup... If he is as good as you make him out to be they should win 76 games easilyyyyyyyy...
Ditto, except that this would be my favorite scenario period. Although I'm not certain the Nets would surpass the Knicks. However, it would at least give the Knicks one more team to worry about. While I wouldn't be unhappy if we got Melo, I can't help but worry a little about Melo's fit on this team. I really like the group we have although I also believe we need a Melo-type upgrade to really contend unless either Martin or Brooks becomes a dominant perimeter threat this year.
Yea, just don't like the way the team is constructed. The culture had nowhere to go but up so I do agree there. I actually like the Russian so he could build that team up, especially if he gets Paul in the fold, but FAgency should be slim pickings for the next few years. Side note - It should be a pretty interesting year watching the Knicks and Nets go after Paul.
I disagree DD and only see your comments as a way to later down the line slight Carmelo. That team is terrible, even for the East. I personally think we're fine without Carmelo so I'm not one of those upset he apparently isn't coming. I'm actually more upset with New Jersey...dumb move Jersey. Very dumb move. You will end up regretting this someday. Let's put it this way. If WE had Derrick Favors would you be willing to part with him and your starting point guard for Melo? Would Augustin make it any better? IMO Augustin is a Mike Conley level point guard which isn't very good at all. They better hope Murphy doesn't get hurt.
i agree it's a lineup that fits nicely, but the bench is very weak and the East is stronger than it's been in the last few years. Boston, Orlando, Chicago, Atlanta and Milwaukee are surely better and likely 50 win teams. Last year only 4 teams won 50. Cleveland's drop will unload alot of W's elsewhere, but plenty teams have improved, some not drastically, but will be better. Indy, NY, charlotte...really no eastern team, besides Cleveland and Toronto really got worse. Even teams like Philly and Wash should improve based on their draft selections. Detroit, i think, slightly underachieved last year and will probably have better focus this year. So i'd say 45 at most, if things go very well, but uppers 30s is more likely.
Look guys, New Jersey won 15 games last year, the new owner wanted to make a big splash, getting Melo makes a lot of sense for them. And honestly, if they fall flat on their faces, I don't care, I am a Rockets fan. DD
The trade still doesn't work without Denver sending out more salary. Assuming it's very minor, my guess is that Renaldo Balkman is heading out, most likely to Utah. Just a guess. But it makes the trade work under the salary cap.
@alanhahn: NBA source indicates the 4-team situation to be very preliminary and publicized as a run-it-up-the-flagpole thing. Melo has to accept NJ.
This is the best possible scenario for us that could have happened besides him going here. Glad to here it. Carmelo into obscurity with a meaningless move and teams involved. Good for him and good luck Nets and Nuggets.
Kobe has been out of the first round once without Shaq or Gasol. Weren't you just asking yesterday why the Nets arent throwing in Favors if Melo is so good/elite? What do you have to say now? You've been going on and on about how we are real title contenders with a healthy Yao. News flash: Yao hasn't done jack squat except being voted into the all-star game. You went from being the biggest debbie downer to this weirdly over optimistic guy. Find an equilibrium.
Hey. There's a chance he's trying to up Morey's offer. You never know I guess but I know the Nets are more desperate than us. Melo is going to have to be patient if he heads there.
You just got through saying screw him, forget about him, I don't care anymore about him. You sound like an obsessed spurned lover, very Mo Williams-esque. WTF is wrong with you man, get it together. Do you just like getting exposure? Get Melo's balls out of your mouth for a second and breath. It's not like we suck, we weren't the Nets last year. They desperately need this and are paying a heavy premium for it. Good for them. Nuggets get weaker, one less playoff spot to worry about. Life goes on.
Birdman is a bad contract, has a bad knee. The Nuggets will have to package with an asset for a team to take him on.
My buddy who gave me the 3 team deal info left me a message saying not much has changed since we last spoke....so when he calls me back again, ill let u know what the story is up there
Morey could have only been involved to raise the price to the point the Knicks couldn't be in the picture.
The Nets should be better if they get DJ. Morrow is an outside threat that will make defenses pay for doubling Lopez or Melo. I expect them to compete for a playoff spot. Lopez should really benefit from this trade if Murphy is playing the PF spot. This will open up the paint for him and Melo to do their damage. The Nets new owner isn't playing games. He's ready to make his team better. And ASidd_1990.... Chill homie... Yoyo might have to DDT you if you don't calm down...
Potential Nets rotation: Lopez - (Murphy) - Joe Smith Murphy - Humphries - (Joe Smith) Anthony - Outlaw - James Marrow - Williams Farmar - Augustin For sure, that is a mess in the backcourt. Terrance Williams shouldn't start for anyone. New Jersey would be wise to just trot out Anthony Morrow at the 2 spot and park him at the line. He was a sniper last year (better than 45% from 3). Augustin is a tolerable backup point if he only has to sit back and shoot jumpers...Farmar could very well win the starting job. All they really need is someone to bring the ball up, dish to Anthony on the wing, and set up for a standstill 3. But bigs go a long way in this league. That's legit size guarding the basket, so they won't be the worst defensive team in the league (and Avery Johnson should also keep them working on that end). Lopez should be good for 19-9, Murphy 14-9, and combine for 2 blocks/gm. Then you'd have Anthony chewing up all the shots he can take - I'll guess he'll take 23 a game and average 30 ppg with 6 or 7 rebounds. Both Murphy and Lopez can step out and be used in the high P&R, and Murphy especially can shoot from outside. They aren't competing for homecourt, but I think they'll do well if this goes through and Avery maximizes what he has on the roster.
