A move like is something similar to what i said in the butler thread. It seems like the rockets are trying to pick a lane. Posters were enamored with flexibilty and all and talking about how dallas made the move cause they're in win now mode, but thats the exact mode the rockets should be in also. Make no bones about it, the rockets are going to ride yao till he retires. I don't agree with that, but it is what it is. They need to put as many high quality players in the mix. When your best and most expensive player also going to be with the team the longest,it makes sense. No matter how people want to stack up the scolandry combo, jamison is the far better player. Now i think landry is getting better and better, but jamison is still better and probably will be for the next 2 yrs. The attempts at thomas is the other direction. Ive always thought the guy next to yao should be that jamison type or that camby type. Thomas is in the mold of a shot blocker/basket protector/athletic type that would compliment yao well. Thats not to say scola or landry arent good players, but in the grand scheme of things they don't make up for what yao cant do. People want to look at taking la to 7 games minus yao, but the thing is when la needs a good look, they put yao in the pnr. Utah does the same thing and when scolandry is backside, the goal is open. With a guy like thomas, the team still has a guy to protect the rim when yao is involved in pnr plays. He's gotten better since his rookie yr and was playing well last year. He still has upside and would fit as a transition piece. I understand both logics and sometimes you have to look through things to understand them. The rockets either need to go all in or get guys with a upside.
I'm down for getting Thomas and Jamison... As long we keep Brooks, Landry, and Lowry. I'd be willing to trade everyone else + picks.
Ever since college, I've been a big Jamison fan. He's my fav player that's not a Rocket. I think he would be a huge part of a championship team. But, adding just him along side Yao isn't enough. Something else will need to be done.
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yf8qlge here's my proposal for getting Jamison, plus Iggy, while appeasing the other teams with talent (or enabling the development of their current young talent) and everyone but Houston getting expiring contracts back. Here is my defense of the trade: The first major objection will probably be: Why would Washington want 2 PFs and a center back? Well, all 3 are expiring (which enables their rebuilding project) ,and gets at least 1 quality player in Scola, who is also expiring (I believe they hold his Bird rights in the summer). The acquisition of Scola would at least semi-appease Wiz fans after pissing them all off by doing such a lopsided deal with Dallas. They would have 3 new starters at the beginning of next week / this weekend, and would have some decent guys. Philly gets value in Budinger (and for those who don't want to see Budinger go, he is definitely replaceable and, with the oncoming CBA meltdown, will be replaceable at a cheap rate), a decent player now in Miller, and an expiring in Cook. It's important to note Washington, Philly and NY all get expirings with the exception of Budinger. New York has genuine interest in T-mac both as a player and as a contract; they also get rid of Harrington (giving them the ability to develop Jordan HIll this season) and Curry. We obviously bank on this trade; Iguodala allows Brooks to be a pure shooter since Iggy can distribute so well, and Jamison is still good for 20ppg right now. Their contracts are both big, but I genuinely think a Yao / Jamison / Battier or Ariza / Iguodala / Brooks starting lineup is a legitimate contending team - 3 offensive weapons in the starting lineup, 2 great wing defenders, and 2 shot changers in the paint.
As for a back door trade, maybe the Rockets are getting Jamison to trade him to the Cavs for the supposed trade that would've gotten Amare Stoudemire to the Cavs. Big Z and Hickson could end up in Houston. I dont know, just a thought..
I think Curry has a player option for next year, so that may not work. Maybe swap Curry with Mobley in that trade? Also, it looks like Morey is adamant in getting Hill from the Knicks. Not sure if he would give up C-Bud and take on the contracts of both Jamison and Iggy without getting one more prospect back...
I totally forgot that Curry has that evil player option; Mobley's money does fit in the trade (as a substitute), and if the NBA approves his medical problems as insurance-worthy then Washington saves money now and in the long term.
I can't imagine Houston would be seriously considering Jamison unless it's part of another deal or if Washington was desperate enough to give up an unprotected lottery pick. Dude can play, but he doesn't seem to fit the profile of Morey's value based metrics. ....not a huge fan of Thomas(doesn't seem like he has a high baskeball IQ) but at least I can see the potential there. Chicago has been a bit of a mess the last several years and he has seen 3 coaches in his short career which had to stunt his development a bit. That being said, I can't see him being any more than a very good role player and Houston has a few of those already at the same position. If I were Houston I would try and get Taj Gibson if we were looking for a PF from Chicago, but that would certainly doom us to having to take on crappy Kirk Heinrich.
Carl is the guy the teams want. Luis is the guy we would move, unless Bosh, Joe Johnson, + became available.
OK, but if we get Thomas, what position would he play, My point is if this trade goes down we'll have 3 PF.. Just wondering..?
Man I said this last night. I think Scola for Rudy would really help our team out. Rudy is exactly the type of 2 guard we've been missing, he just needs to be more disciplined at times but i'm sure Adelman can fix that....and get Ariza to send him some flowers on his way here.
Pritchard is a PRICK. He bent us over bigtime to get Rudy in the first place. Isn't he the GM that e-mailed the other GM's around the legue threating to "take leagal action" against anyone that was thinking of signing D. Miles??
I dont think this is true, Jamison does not fit with what Morey is trying to do at all. Hes probably trying to swindle it for Cleveland and pick up Hickson, picks from them.
But their talks with the Cavs for Antawn Jamison have grown stagnant, with Cleveland having re-directed its attention toward Amare Stoudemire. But the bottom line is that the Wizards are motivated sellers and would do a lopsided deal to get under the tax threshold. (Jamison plus Mike James equals $18.1 million, so if the Wizards got offered a package in return worth $15.5 or less, they'd consider it.)
