Its a good move for the bucks. He is something they needed. He may eventually end up being a backup after they find a taker for Redd's expring contract at the deadline. So having Gooden to add depth at PF and C is not so bad for them. He is a productive player. If they re-sign Salmons they will have some good depth on the team. They will be able to put up some points. All they need to do is learn how to get stops when they need them. They don't need to hold teams to under 90 points every night. So they dont need a team full of Battier's and Hayes'. They are still building. In two years the Bucks will be one of the up and coming teams....
I wouldn't be. The fact that Scola is 30, undersized and is a relative unknown will stop GM's from throwing crazy money at him. I wouldn't be surprised if Scola gets an offer sheet with Gooden type money.
Scola is not relatively unknown to the Gm's making these decisions. He is only unknown to the casual NBA fan. The only thing that helps us as far as paying Scola is the market for PF's is pretty deep in this FA class.
You will be surprised in the weak offers Scola will get. He's a 30 year old un athletic "Big" man. I love him here so that's good for us.
maybe but figure barnes was more of a journeyman and getting 1-2 deals is the norm and most of those deals are FA signings of his choice gooden on the other hand is a former #4 overall pick who has been productive every where he has gone and has just been traded all over the place. drafted by mem traded to orlando traded to cleveland traded to chicago traded to sacramento traded to washington (though never played a game there) traded to LA he signed a contract with cleveland after his rookie deal, then SA after his buyout with sacramento and just a one year deal with Dallas. so I would say that he made 3 real signings after his rookie contract the deal with cleveland, the one year deal with dallas (though thats sort of even shaky) and the current deal he made Barnes i think has been mroe of the sign as a 12th man then released then sign elsewhere he hasnt found a niche till GS and then has been signing contracts since Gooden for being the productive player that he is to be traded around like that is more amazing to me
He has always produced wherever he has landed. It will be interesting if they can reign him in, sometimes players just need to find the right situation. DD
He sure does - once or twice a month. Immediately after trades, he'll kick it into high gear and give you 4, maybe 5 good games his first month.....then slouching back to his normal routine. Gotta save that energy for the clubs.
he's not thaaaaaat bad. he got 15-10 with the clippers and was almost dominant at times. compare him to tyson or okafor contracts, and he's legit. i do wonder if scola will receive offers much higher than that one though.
Big men are always paid a premium for their size. You're crazy. Scola is 30, but he's an ironman and can produce without athleticism. He's the sort of guy who can keep playing into his late 30s. He's not undersized. His height in average for a PF, and he's meaty. Unknown? Every GM in the league likely has a file for every player in the NBA and quite a few players not in the NBA. Plus, he's a starter and has played well this last season. Nobody's going to forget about him. The only thing that will dampen his market value is his restricted status. And, given how much cap space was freed up this offseason, it could have the opposite effect and cause a team to overpay to avoid the match from the Rockets.
Ok this must be the dumbest move ever. I like the Bucks, but c'mon, Gooden is not worth that kind of money.
