Caron Butler is a star? By that I mean a 1st or 2nd option. Mavs have Dirk and Kidd as their no.1 and no.2.

So you wanted Morey to make Butler the no.1/2 guy on the Rockets?

That comment was about the Artest trade last year.

Dallas is close to a trade with the Wizards for Caron Butler, Haywood, and Stevenson for Josh Howard, Quinton Ross, and Drew Gooden. So looks like it's not gonna happen for the Rockets.

Kidd takes very few shots. He is not used as a scoring option on their team. He acts as their facilitator primarily.

Being the no.2 guy is all about scoring?

They usually count as Scoring combos so yeah it does.

    that's why it's
    Gasol/Kobe
    LeBron/Williams
    Billups/Melo
    Duncan/Parker
    etc...

You have to have a scoring combo to win in this league.

It shouldn't be but that is mostly how people use those terms.

For example, stud defensive players like Deke or Ben Wallace in their primes were probably never referred to as the #1 or #2 guys (or 1st option, 2nd option, etc...) on their teams.

I agree with your point though.

this is just simply not true at all Les has always tried to make moves to improve the team for better or worse. it infuriates me whenever people say that Les is not a good owner when he is one of the best in the NBA.

Cuban has plenty of money to blow compared to Les. The Rockets are not winning the title this year there is no reason to try to go for broke and cripple themselves in the the upcoming seasons.

Daryl is going to make the move that will be serve the rockets not just this year but the upcoming years as well.

Well if the Dallas/Washington deal goes through and a Phoe/Clev Amare deal goes down, there will be no more suitors left for Philly. Maybe a chance to get Iggy will become less expensive?

What makes me wonder is if Yao would have been healthy and thus assuming we where a bit better, would Morey have pulled the trigger on Butler/Haywood if the issue was trading one of our core players?

Cuban made his team worse with his moves. He had 3 stars and got rid of two them to save money. He broke up the the Big 3, Dirk, Nash, and Finley.

In 2004, Cuban told Nash to take a hike to Phoenix, when Nash asked for him to match the offer.

Next season, Cuban waived Finley to get out of town, so that he could save more luxury tax money.

    Horrible.

You know the Rockets would have resigned Nash and Finley, if Rockets had their Bird rights.

Don't forget that Cuban threw Nash and Finley under the bus to save a dollar. Championship be damned.

Excellent post. When people attempt to compare Les to Cuban, they should consider a couple of things. One is that Les, like many Americans of all classes, was hurt by the giant tumble the market took. He's still wealthy, but not as wealthy as before, and my understanding is that a larger percentage of his current wealth is tied up in the Rockets. Point number two is that today I read somewhere that Cuban is estimated to be worth $2.4 billion dollars. There's wealthy, and then there is having so much money that it becomes absurd. That's Cuban. While Les is far from perfect (who is?), and has made his share of mistakes, The_Yoyo isn't blowin' smoke when he says he's one of the best owners in the league.

The thing about Cuban is, he's not so much a businessman as he is a playboy. Les is like most owners; he's not willing to just blow his wealth.
